I believe it's Tom Landa leader of the band the Paperboys who have played gigs and festivals with EFO. If you haven't heard the Paperboys they are a terrific Celtic fusion band (meaning there sound is mainly Celtic style but they blend in country, cajun, pop, etc.) based in Vancouver, BC. www.paperboys.com - -Liam - ----Original Message Follows---- From: Diane Mittler To: edheads@efohio.com Subject: One more time... I think both bands--efo and Tom Landa-- are coming to the Four Corners Folk Festival Labor Day weekend in Pagosa Springs, CO. I'm curious to see if there will be any interaction between the two. Anyone else coming to Pagosa? Eddie is going to play two sets--Friday night and Sunday afternoon. I'm counting down the days! I'll be there. The Four Corners Folk Festival is great and EFO puts on a fantastic show there. That was where I was first turned on the them three years ago. Last year (and the year before) EFO and Nickel Creek did a little pickin' and grinnin' together on stage that was great. Anyone who is interested can check out the festival info at www.folkwest.com - -Dave Bastian ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 08 Aug 2001 23:00:07 -0400 From: "steve roane" Subject: EFO vs the Sports Junkies Hello list, I was wondering if anyone out there listens to the Sports Junkies radio show. I was sensing some hostility from the boys toward EFO on Tuesday and heard a reference to EFO again tonight. I only heard bits and pieces, so if anyone knows the scoop, could you fill me in? I didn't hear the whole thing myself, but I can tell what I know. (I could preface this by saying that I haven't listened to the Junkies in months, and never listened regularly to begin with, but that makes me sound like some sort of apologist. But it's true.) Anyway, the Sports Junkies (and for those who don't know, they're a radio show run by four regular-Joe suburban white guy early-30s types in the DC area) are celebrating their 1000th show next week, and were trying to book a band. As they re-told it on their show the other day, they were originally trying for emmet swimming (I think), who are old friends of the show, but they couldn't make it. Then they were working on the Pat McGee Band (whom they had never heard of, but were told are big locally), who seemed to be blowing them off; finally, they also tried EFO (who they also weren't familiar with), who wanted to do it, but apparently couldn't get out of previous "personal commitments" (one of them said he "got a call from the lead singer" who apologized to them about it all; as they referred to the person as "he", I'm guessing they meant Robbie, but who knows?). Anyway, they were kinda bitter about it, but not so much at EFO directly as much as at the whole situation, and they took it out on everyone within reach, including EFO. At least while I was listening, though, they didn't really say anything nasty about EFO. (And anyone who listens to the Junkies at all would know that these guys get bitter and complain at the drop of a hat, because it makes for "good radio.") So no need to storm the studio at WJFK or anything. I care a little too much about this, methinks... Paul S. ------------------------------ End of edheads-digest V4 #169 *****************************
