This can be found on the first page of EFO's site (www.efohio.com) Note - HOW TO UNSUBSCRIBE: When you've signed up and found out after a very short time that you've had ENOUGH! Just e-mail edheads-request@efohio.com and write 'unsubscribe' in the text. Also note, the text is the body, not the subject. Maybe whoever is running this thing should put the instructions to unsub at the bottom of all the e-mails. Probably still won't stop some people, but I think most would understand. swb ===== steven nero7997@yahoo.com http://filebox.vt.edu/users/stblack2/ http://verticalhorizonfaq.tripod.com/ Make international calls for as low as $.04/minute with Yahoo! Why do you suppose this is?? It doesn't really bother me that much to read unsubscribe messages...I actually think they're kind of funny. But it's also kind of sad that so many [presumably educated people] don't know how to follow simple directions! If it were an nsync mailing list, I guess I would understand, but I thought EFO fans were smarter than that. That was actually Mark Erilli and not Jimmy LaFave. But Jimmy made up the bulk of the verses while Mr. Clem had none. :-) Now to the new cd. I don't think I can praise the new offering by EFO enough. It's amazing to see the growth of this band through their cds. Each release has been unique, yet the exceptional EFO sound is always present. "Quick" has a lot of meanings for me. The title song of course, the quick tempo and overall pace of the cd, and the quick wit of some of the songs. The opening song "Quick" sets the mood. The up tempo song with great harmonies and witty lyrics are an EFO staple. The quick pace continues until "Best of Me" which acts as a bridge between humor and serious. I think the humor on "Quick" is exceptional. Songs like "Mesolithic" and "Tommy" aren't merely an exercise in rhyming. Both Robbie and Mike's songwriting is very mature. Ok, some might not equate maturity with "Mesolithic" or "Monotony." But there is a maturity in these songs by combining words and music to create very real characters or situations. I first noticed this with "Payday in the Village" (which I will keep requesting every time I see them until they start playing it again). That song created a whole community in just under 4 minutes. Of course, humor is subjective, so not everyone will appreciate it. I have to admit that the lines about Selena on "Tommy" and going postal on "Monotony" make me a bit uncomfortable (I guess I don't find stalking and shootings funny). But, there are lyrics that will always have me laughing "Give some of that Alley-Oop Love Stuff!" And I just have to say that "Monotony" is brilliant! Mike made a very difficult trombone solo sound easy! :-) On the more serious side "Little Man" & "Great Day" show off spirit and voice and the talent of the entire group together. The production of "Quick" is top-notch. There are a few places where the band could have gone overboard, but pull back. Ok, if I HAVE to have a complaint it would be that they lyric sheet is ageist. How the HELL can I read that small print. Actually, to be fair, I am blind as a bat. :-) don Albert Einstein was never good at math But he found time down a curving path -- Robbie Schaefer, "Quick" Don Semmens; Richmond, VA; donsem@concentric.net Visit my Regan Site http://www.concentric.net/~donsem/regan.htm Rob Buck Memorial Scholarship Fund http://gottabuck.org/ ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 31 Jul 2001 15:21:19 -0400 From: "Liam Sullivan" Subject: Re: My Quick Review >Of course, humor is subjective, so not everyone will appreciate it. That's part of the reason I can't get into "Mesolithic." I just don't find jokes about domestic violence funny. And the rest of the song is just old, recycled caveman jokes, not original EFO wit & humor. - -Liam _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 31 Jul 2001 14:46:26 -0700 (PDT) From: Andrew Bray Subject: Mesolithic (was Re:My Quick Review) I don't mean to club (no pun intended) your opinion of Mesolithic, but if when you hear that song, you hear domestic violence jokes - you are really missing a funny and very witty commentary on the complexity of modern male-female relationships. Fighting Gravity does rock. I've seen them at the Herndon, VA Friday Night Live concerts many times. They've always rocked Herndon FNL and majorly got people jumping. However, I'm not sure if the acoustic thing is really them. It was hard to make out the acoustic instrumentation at Wolftrap from the lawn. The last couple of electric songs were much truer to their sound in my opinion. - --------------- Stuart - -----Original Message----- From: Liam Sullivan [SMTP:LTSMass@excite.com] Sent: Monday, July 30, 2001 1:25 PM To: edheads@efohio.com Subject: Re: wolf trap 7/27 On Sun, 29 Jul 2001 14:19:40 EDT, DaTr22@aol.com wrote: not arguing, i'd just like to say fighting gravity rocks:) I like them too. Showing my age here, but the last time I saw them perform live was at the Senior Dance when I graduated college in 1995! How far they have come! Their "Hello Cleveland" live album is a good listen. - -Liam _______________________________________________________ Send a cool gift with your E-Card http://www.bluemountain.com/giftcenter/ ------------------------------ End of edheads-digest V4 #160 *****************************
