I have been listening to Mike and Robby since we were in high school together. Besides being very talented, they are 2 of the nicest guys on the planet. Enjoy the Midwest! >>>>>> I've been listening to EFO for almost the full 10 years now but only joined this list last week. wow, lively "discussion" - for lack of a better word. I love EFO and continue to recruit people in any new city i move to...they of course turn into instant ed-heads. couple questions hoping someone can answer please.... 1. I lost my 10th anninversary newsletter with their fall schedule and the website only goes through august. can anyone tell me some places in the midwest they will be playing. i remember a gig in ann arbor in sept. anyone have the date? 2. any of you out there from the grand rapids, michigan area???? i would love to try and get them here after their ann arbor gig.........i hope there are a few of you out there!!!! Cheers to all........especially those who remember the $2 (and only if you came after 7:30 or 8) gigs on tuesdays at bad habits!!!! what a blast!! ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 30 Jul 2001 08:53:19 EDT From: JRaimo007@aol.com Subject: Re: FALCON RIDGE Yes Yes. Excellent review. There was at least 10000 people on the hill avter Dar and during "Oh My Brother" Everyone was silent. The only sound you could hear was the concession booths and a couple of Yahoos running down the hill. I was seated about half way up the hill and had a great view of the show and the fans. 10000 people is a lot of edheads in the Northeast. I guess maybee half of them had a heard of the band and even fewer have a loyalty to them, but I'm positive (from listening to and seeing the croud reaction) that they have many more fans now. I'll be willing to bet that traffic to efohio.com and shows in the NE will be even more packed now. Good for them. Oh yeah, the way they ended with Candito before the encore was awesome. They had the whole hill singing the "o's" as they one by one took off their guitars and walked off stage with a simple wave, Eddie last (leaving while taping the drum sticks together.) The croud went nuts. WTG EFO. Those without glowsticks used flashlights. It was awesome. See you all later. Thanks Nicole. - Jim Raimo PS. I think it would be fun, during the live shows, to throw paper airplanes at the end of the song "Quick". Random thought. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 30 Jul 2001 09:53:36 -0400 From: "John Ryan" Subject: FALCON RIDGE Wonderful weekend at FRFF! I saw the glowstick/flashstick thing, and it was a kewl sight to see, almost like a starfield on the hill. One thing I want to add to Oh My Brother, was when Julie sang the line, "And singing this song's no way to say goodbye...." right before there is silence from the band, I could hear Julie's voice resonant all the way back behind the hill. FRFF is a very nice natural ampitheater, I wonder if God created the landscape with that in mind... On Saturday during one of the workshops that involved both the Nields and EFO, I saw an awesome Kodak moment. It was Liam on Julie's husband's shoulders and Katrina's (Nields) brand new daughter, Amelia on her husband's shoulders together in the same space. And I must say, Liam was totally macking on Amelia? Do I smell a power couple in the works? Should we look for a wedding in 2022? I wish I did have a camera at that moment, it would have made a wonderful picture. At the signing, one of my friends gave Clem a can of Mr. Clem's Chili Sauce in a can. Eddie knew what it was right away: "Oh wow! Mr. Clem's!" I was up by upper Camp Fruvous, and managed to learn one EFO song to play during the sing-alongs up there, Three Fine Daughters. If I can manage the quick switch from Bm to A, I could play Eddie's Concubine as well. I was kind of distressed with the number of people who left after Dar's set was over. A mass exodus of people, it's something I'm used to when I played in my band not too long ago, but you can certainly stay another hour couldn't you? Well, it's their tough luck that they decide to miss out on EFO, and because of them, I was able to snag a seat down front. I can't wait for a couple of EFO shows coming up. It hasn't been posted on their tour schedule, but they're supposed to play September 21st at the Knitting Factory in NYC. Also, a VERY awesome show coming on November 21st out in Allentown, where they play with the Arrogant Worms! Hope to see some of you at future shows, and may EFO continue to have unbridaled success. They deserve it. - - John ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 30 Jul 2001 11:19:15 -0400 From: Clay Chilcoat Subject: EFO: Wolf Trap (my 2 cents) I'd like to preface this by saying that I hate EFO and all of their albums, Edheads, the Edhead list, anyone with opinions different from mine, anyone with opinions the same as mine, anyone without opinions and short people. This evil negativity (while not at all a correct representation of my true feelings) should balance out the praise that I'm about to present and keep all of the miserable people off of my back. EFO was definitely on for the Wolf Trap show, which is no big surprise. It may have been the excitement of the show or a little too much coffee backstage, but the tempo on most of the songs was a little faster than normal. They still kicked ass. I really enjoyed the horns - especially on Eddie's Concubine! It really added an extra dimension to the song. Eddie's intro of Let's Get Mesolithic was the humor high point of the show... "when drummers were gods." All in all, a great show and a good time. And Dancin' Joe rocked the house! Now for what I didn't like. We were siting in the Loge/balcony thing, and the sound (in our section anyway) was pretty poor. The mix itself was good (once again, kudos to Bob), but the sound was very muffled. It made the lyrics very difficult to make out. I, of course, did my part to correct the situation by sing very loudly for all the people sitting around me to hear. Sorry. The sound quality didn't affect my appreciation of EFO, but I couldn't make out any of the lyrics or inter-song banter of Fighting Gravity or Great Big Sea. I'm thinking the 2 bands were probably very good, judging from the crowd response and what I could make out, but it was definitely not a good first exposure to FG or GBS. I guess I'll have to catch them elsewhere. Clay Chilcoat Disclaimer: The opinions expressed above do not necessarily represent those of the management of this list, it's readers or even the writer for that matter. But it should. If you disagree with anything above, you must be clinically insane and should run (don't walk) to the nearest asylum and request a room with a view of the pretty, pretty flowers. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 30 Jul 2001 12:25:49 -0400 From: "Shawn McCausland" Subject: Wolf Trap etc. Greetings all, Not too much more I can add about the Wolf Trap show, except to say that the EFO set was way too short. The Fighting Gravity set didn't move me much, but Great Big Sea was terrific. I already had one of their CDs and knew a good many of the songs they played, so maybe that enhanced my enjoyment. The sound out on the lawn kept varying all night - something weird was going on with the speakers - so I don't think the lyrics were very clear. I was very surprised to see so many people who knew who they were, and that they got called back for an encore, which was a kick butt version of "It's the End of the World as We Know It." These guys definitely rock. EFO couldn't have chosen a better song ("Old Dominion") to open with given the crowd, and didn't disappoint with any other song choices either. Highlights for me included: 1. Mike's comment "Is there love out on the lawn? Well, you're gonna have to clean that up." 2. Joe taking the stage to not only do The Joe but also an apparently never-before-seen jig, and the house lights coming up to reveal 8,000 screaming fans joining in 3. A version of "Oh My Brother" that was almost as breathtaking as the one they did at the Barns in March 4. Eddie's solo - which if he managed to put in some guitar work would be truly complete 5. Eddie's intro to "Mesolithic," which in addition to being hilarious was probably the longest I've ever heard him speak at one time 6. "Eddie's Concubine" done, as Mike said, "as God intended it" with the horn section backup 7. "Irish Blessing," a song I can never get enough of. I've heard them say that they only do this song at shows they've felt especially strong about, and there was definitely a lot of love and support at this show. Thanks to all those who reviewed Falcon Ridge - I'm going to have to make a point of going up there next year. EFO played a nice cover of "It's All Right" (?) during the Nod to Bob workshop. I think Peter, Paul & Mary have popularized this song which is appropos since EFO is often compared to PP&M. There was just one great performer after another on the mainstage Saturday. A lot of people left after Dar Williams set, for which I had mixed feelings - bummed for those who were missing EFO, but happy that I got to slide up closer to the stage. EFO started with what seems to be their standard opener these days, "Stupid American." The nice thing about festivals is being around people who've never seen the band before. After one song, the man behind me said enthusiastically "Now this is worth statying up for!" They played "Eddie's Concubine" and then some QUICK tracks "Quick" (with Robbie's north & south joke), "Best of Me" (another one that got belly laughs from first-time listeners), and "Hey Little Man." Then they played "Number Six Driver" which I'm liking more & more each time I hear it. I love whatever it is Robbie is doing on the guitar. I was thinking of the song after the festival when I was driving home with "Massachusetts in my eyes." Unfortunately, a cup of hot cofee was not available as the rest areas on the Mass Pike were closed! I digress. "Let's Get Mesolithic" was next & it sounded better than in previous performances I'd seen. In the strangest of segues from one of EFO's least sensitive to most sensitive songs, they played "O My Brother" next. The hillside was full off silent people, as they listened to the emotion poor out of Julie's voice. At this point, Mike announced that they were running into curfew problems (mainly because the Nields and their miliion guest performers and then Dar Williams played too long). Eddie did a quick drum solo that was unusual in that it wasn't tied into a song like "The Bridge" or "Very Short Fuse." The rest of the band rejoined for the finale, "Candido & America", another song I'm liking more each time I hear it, and the first time I've heard it performed live. Robbie got everyone singing along with the chorus and then Robbie, Mike & Julie left the stage so that it was just the audience singing with Eddie keeping rhytmn. One of those beautiful Falcon Ridge moments. The show could have ended there and no one would have complained, but they came back on for an encore of "Tom Burleigh's Dead" with more crowd singing and glowsticks & flashlights waving. So a great ending was made even better. Aside from the curfew cutting EFO short, the only dissapointments I have is that they didn't play "Tommy the Canexican" which would be great with Tom Landa in the house. Also, this is the second straight show I've been to without "Three Fine Farmers of Father Brown". Is this just an anamoly or are they not playing that in every show anymore? I'm guessing they meant to play these songs (and more) & just got cut short by the curfew. - -Liam SETLIST: Stupid American Eddie's Concubine Quick Best of Me Hey Little Man Number Six Driver Let's Get Mesolithic O My Brother Eddie's Drum Solo Candido & America Encore: Tom Burleigh's Dead _______________________________________________________ Send a cool gift with your E-Card http://www.bluemountain.com/giftcenter/ ------------------------------ End of edheads-digest V4 #157 *****************************
