(if you are looking to buy you can get them off thier page @ www.greatbigsea.com of course its canadien monry so uif you need a rate conversion there is a good one @ www.hotsellers.com/order/currency.html) 3] and of course EFO!!!!!!!!!!- this was originally supposed to be my first efo show but i got lucky with the boarders shows. anyway i was awe struck with their performance. i'm sure that i had this goofy grin on my face the whole night. let me just say that it was very cool to see the many different fans of all ages and walks of life, i don't know of many bands who can appeal to such a wide audience. i wish i could remember the set list but i was to busy going "oh my god efo" over and over in my head. i was kind of dissapointed not to hear monotony :-( maybe mike monobone was broken , or he heard how many people didn't like it from the list :) just kidding. any way it was a great night i got to sit behind Eddie's mom (two rows up.) she was wearing a her super efo shirt w/ eddies mom scribed on the back, very cool. she looked like she was having a blast esp. after eddies solo which i might say was INCREDIBLE! the entire place was screaming when he finished. he was awsome. i was nice to see them pull up guests from davinci's note book and the sax players off the album for a couple tunes including Concubine in a very ska-esque manner. also they played some old stuff incl. three fine daughters of farmer brown which was incredible mostly because Julie's dad ran onstage and danced for everyone! i think he stole the song :) everyone got a kick out of it. It was touching earlier in the show when Julie dedicated Little Man to her Husband and her mother in-law for being such great people and taking care of liam when she is on the road. it was very sweet. they finally closed after 2 encores. the first a great sing-a-long of tom burleigh with all guest incl. guys from GBS and FG that got the whole joint swaying and raise teir glasses to tom. an incredible time. then ofcourse we couldn't let them go so they came back and did Irish blessing which was wonderful. everyone was quiet and those who could had their arms around each other. it was incredibly sweet. all in all it was an incedible night and i had the time of my life. thanks to wolf trap, FG, GBS, and EFO for making this a wonderful and magical night. i haope all had and are having fun At Falcon ridge. hope you all are dry :) Joe Arlington, VA "when you're talking home you mean the old dominion." _______________________________________________________ Send a cool gift with your E-Card http://www.bluemountain.com/giftcenter/ ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 29 Jul 2001 14:19:40 EDT From: DaTr22@aol.com Subject: Re: wolf trap 7/27 not arguing, i'd just like to say fighting gravity rocks:) This has nothing to do with EFO, they rock as well, but I have never seen any one band get crowds more pumped up at a show then FG. Of course the acoustic is different, very good, but different. I'd suggest checking out one of their regular shows. With an incredible diversity of instruments (how many bands in this genre do you know that utilize the flute?) They could play to a crowd of about 10 and still bring the place alive and make it seem like it was a packed house. That is all. Glad Wolftrap was so cool :) - -dan ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 29 Jul 2001 11:55:27 -0700 (PDT) From: Steven Black Subject: Wolf Trap - Setlist/Review OK, just got back from a weekend of EFO at Wolf Trap and Carbon Leaf on Mayo Island. I'm pulling this from memory, so I'm not gonna' guarentee that they're in the correct order... Old Dominion Number Six Driver The Best of Me Hey Little Man Quick Candido and America Three Fine Daughters (w/ Dancing Joe!) Oh, My Brother Eddie's Solo Let's Get Mesolithic Tommy the Canexican Eddie's Concubine Great Day - ------------ Tom Burleigh's Dead May the Road Rise to Meet You (Irish Blessing) sorry if the order is not correct (it's mostly correct), or if I missed a song or two... Comments: Being a Hokie, I think I'm required to like Fighting Gravity...I'm not exactly sure. They played some great stuff, and I was definitely digging it, but it was apparent that most of the crowd wasn't there to see them. Oh well... Great Big Sea...not exactly sure what to think of them. Maybe because it was the first time I had heard them and I couldn't understand what they were saying. Plus, their set was *somewhat* long (for an opening band) and I was wanting to see EFO. This was also the first time I had seen an opening band be called back for an encore. I guess the crowd wanted it and they got it. Now to EFO - The house lights had been turned down for a while, so you knew they were coming out soon...but then out of no where, you could hear Julie's voice singing the first line to "Old Dominion," and afterwards, the lights were slowly turned on to reveal teh band on stage. Cool way to start the show... The Best of Me was dedicated to all the "lover's on the lawn." My friend said that she was gonna' play that song at all of her friends' weddings. :-) Hey Little Man - as always, dedicated to Liam and her husband. Quick - Still like the verses, but I still think the chorus and bridge are, well...not good. Candido and America - Best song on the new CD! Three Fine Daughters got the crowd excited, and of course - when Julie's Dad came out, it was all over. Robbie mentioned that they really don't know who "Joe" was, but just kept him around for ticket sales. Oh, My Brother - YES! For some reason, I just knew they were gonna' play it. I've been listening to FIDO a lot lately, especially this song. Eddie's Solo...OK, I've been playing the drums for 14 years and I am still awed every single time I see that solo (This being my third). Eddie then introduced "Let's Get Mesolithic" - harking back to the days when "men were still judged by their caves and drummers were gods!!!" Ended the main set with "Great Day." Amazing voices, amazing harmonies, that's all there is to say about that. They came back and did Tom Burleigh's Dead. I like the song, but I'm not a big fan of the chorus (I just don't like that they repeat "curiosity killed him"). Closed with the traditional Irish Blessing. Awesome rendition (a capella). I've been used to listening to another one of my favorite bands playing that song as their closing number (not gonna' name them, since EFO apparently HATES them, but here's a hint - they broke up in '97). All in all, a good day. swb ===== steven nero7997@yahoo.com http://filebox.vt.edu/users/stblack2/ http://verticalhorizonfaq.tripod.com/ Make international calls for as low as $.04/minute with Yahoo! OK, falcon ridge is the best place in the whole world, and efo is more amazing than I ever thought possible! I don't know if EFO is always as amazing as they were last night, b/c I've only seen them once before, at FR last year when I wasn't a fan, but they were on fire! They were on after the Nields and Dar (who both also put on amazing shows). They opened with Stupid American, and I think then played Quick. I don't remember the exact set list, but the played (in no particular order): Oh my Brother, Eddie's Concubine, Quick, Let's Get Mesolithic, Best of Me, Hey lIttle ManNumber Six Driver, Candido & America (audience participated on the "oh" chorus, and it was AMAZING), and Tom Burleigh's Dead. I was wondering how they were going to perform, b/c of the previous night's show, but they looked (and sounded) like they got all the sleep in the world! Julie's stage presence just floored me, and her voice! Oh, there aren't words to describe. Eddie's hands were flying, and Mike! and Robbie sounded awesome. Kristen and I were singing and screaming like mad. I don't know about her, but I can't really talk today. I scored us awesome seats, we were like 10 feet from the stage, directly in front! They didn't play Atlantic, so when the starting closing with Tom Burleigh, we were just decided "What the Hell, we'll glowstick now" So we did, and around that time, the artists on the stage (they invited other artists to come up and sing too) started swaying back and forth, so we all swayed too, with our glowsticks as well. I looked behind me, at the hill, and there were glowsticks all over the place, everybody glowsticking in unison. It was beautiful. Then, in the midst of singing, Jule says "Way to go Edheads." I looked behind me again and stated to cry. It was so beautiful. (of course I cried several times that night, like during Oh my brother, and dar's song Iowa, FR ritual, but that's just me.) Their performance was soo amazing, and I even conviced three di! fferent people to buy EFO cd's in the merch tent. :) This morning's Gospel wake up was awesome too! They sang Great Day first, and it sounded soooo wonderful. (I'm starting to run out of adjectives here! lol) They sang Operator, and after it ended, they did like this improv deal on the song, and it was truly (insert positive adjective here, b/c i've run out). Julie was dancing and singing, and you could just tell that everybody was having a great time. Right after that I went to the signing tent, and got my liner of Portable signed. (yay!) I talked to them for a few minutes, and it seemed like they really liked the glowsticking. I wish everybody could have seen it, it was so awesome. Ok . . . I'm done now. I hope I did a good job describing Falcon Ridge for those who didn't go . . . although I know I didn't even do it justice. . . . oh yeah, I got to meet some fellow edheads, and that was cool! It was great to meet people who are equally as obsessed as I. :) nichole nichole AIM: Poetrygrl8 "I wanna be young, wanna be beautiful, making a small beautiful sound."
