Cantering on Fool, if I'm not mistaken, is something that's been around for quite awhile--I think I have a tape of Mike and Robbie performing that at one of their early duo shows (several years back)... Although this is only from memory. I've just moved and can't put my finger on the tape of that show to check. At least, I'm almost certain that, say, Falcon Ridge takes a few bucks from every CD sale that goes on in their big tent, and I've heard that it's a standard practice at most performance venues. Anyone want to tell me if this is right or not? We put on a concert series here, and have had EFO two different times, and do not take a percentage. We figure that tha artists did the work for the merch and should get all the money that results from it. It's not how everyone does it, but it is how we do it. A cut is definitely taken by the house of every merch sale. Less is taken if you do the selling yourself, but a big chunk is taken out in either case. Plus you have to pay the merchandise seller (unless you convince a friend or fan to do it gratis). That's why T shirts and other merchandise at concerts (especially mainstream ones) are so freaking expensive. - ----- Original Message ----- From: To: Sent: Wednesday, June 06, 2001 4:59 PM Subject: Re: EFO: Re: Royalty Question > In a message dated 6/5/01 11:55:33 PM Eastern Daylight Time, > nmcarlson@ucdavis.edu writes: > > > Now EFO is their own label and frequently their own retail store, so they > > gross $15 on every CD they sell on their own, and maybe $10 on every CD > > they sell through record stores (wild-assed guess--I don't know what their > > wholesale price is).
