Show reviews posted to this list indicate that the band does or has done a fair number of these - I wonder if they're one time only deals? Anyone know? Anyway, it's always an unexpected highlight for me. I love their original work but think it's really fascinating to hear their renditions of other songs I love. The reason I ask is that Robbie mentioned at the Barns show a few weeks ago that at their July 27 Wolf Trap show they would be bringing Great Big Sea up to play a song or two with them. I mentioned that I thought it would be cool to hear them all play "It's the End of the World as We Know It," which GBS does a great cover of and I think would suit Robbie particularly well. He seemed to downplay that idea and said they'd likely do "Tom Burley's Dead" instead. I'm sure that'll be fun, but I still think "End of the World" would be better... First some non-cover versions that never seem to be on Atlanta show playlists that I'd like to hear: Bookends & One! The only covers I've ever heard them do are usually spontaneous & lasts about 40 seconds.(sea cruise, Stairway to heaven, ina gada davita etc.) I'd like to hear them do "puff the Magic Dragon" for my lil nieces! and Julie to sing Natalie Merchants "My beloved wife" for my dad...That's pretty much it... ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 27 Mar 2001 17:46:15 -0500 From: "RB Mays" Subject: Hey Now! They did sing "Puff the Magic Dragon" at the March 6 Barns show - it was a dedication to a 4-year-old girl in the crowd who is part of a music class Robbie teaches.
