The show last night in carrboro rocked! I was there with about 8 or 9 friends, and EVERYONE enjoyed it (well, except for maybe my friend's punk friend who was only there because he was who drove her). I have the set list, but don't see much reason to post it. The new songs they played were: Tom Burley, Let's Go Mesolithic, 1000 Sarahs (or is it 2000?), Best of Me, and of course Great Day. My request was Imagine Me. They played it, even announcing that it was my request. Very cool indeed! I love that song so much!!! The theme for the night was definitely "The Sound of Music". It was evidently the 35 anneversary of the movie, and they were happy that we had chosen them over it. Robbie and Mike decided that their favourite part of the movie is when the girl and the guy are in the gazebo and he kisses her and she goes "weeeeee!" So for the rest of the night there were choruses of spontanious "weeeeeeeeeeeees!" from the audience. actually, right before the second set, when the lights had just dimmmed, I let out a couple of "weeeeees" and a few people answered back, then some more people joined it, and then suddnely the band was greated by an audience full of "weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeees!". It was fun, definitely. I met EFO lister Ted, and the mother of a Nields Nooker. My boyfriend actually saw somebody there from our college (unc-asheville), and asked if he knew me and they guy said that he didn't but that'd he'd definitely heard my name at the past couple of EFO shows. Now my boyfriend thinks i'm famous! Teehee. So, now I have a question for all you wonderful EFO listers... What's your favourite new song? I'll have to think about it a little bit before I answer. I really love Number 6 Driver and Best of Me, though!!! I was there, too. I was actually sitting about two rows back and three people over from Rhiannon, but I was nicely inconspicuous. :-) It was a great show. My fiancee's not a big fan of their CDs, but she's really enjoyed both live shows we've gone to. Great seats, too - third row on the floor, between Mike and Julie. On a bit of mailing list serendipity, my improv comedy troupe in Raleigh went to UNC-Asheville a month or so ago for a show. We improvers were hanging out in the student center before the show, and I was wearing an EFO shirt. A couple of students come in, and one of them notices my shirt and says "Hey, my girlfriend really likes that band. Her name is Rhiannon..." I think it's 1,000 Sarahs, IIRC. > My request was Imagine Me. They played it, even announcing that it was my > request. Very cool indeed! I love that song so much!!! Rhiannon was just getting mad props throughout the show. My little mini-brush-with-greatness was getting a nod from Robbie doing the "Rocky Mountains are gradually eroding" motions. :-) > So, now I have a question for all you wonderful EFO listers... I gotta go with "Monotony", which I heard at the last Carrboro show, and "Best of Me". I 'bout busted a gut during that song, because one of the little things I call my fiancee' is "Sausage Toes". How'd they know that? :-) If anyone recorded this Carrboro show, I'd love to get a copy of it to rip to MP3. - --Wade ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 18 Dec 2000 13:28:32 -0500 From: Thomas Ehrhardt Subject: new favorites... After careful review and much 2nd listenings to new efo material: I would say "number 6 driver" & "the new song julie wrote about Liam" which hardly anyone has heard yet are my new favorites..I do really like " Best of me" but #6 driver is really more in keeping w/ the usual folk stylings and I love the story Robbie tells along with it...Happy Holiday's everbody... ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 18 Dec 2000 14:05:52 -0500 (EST) From: Sarah E Robeson Subject: Re: carrboro Excerpts from edheads: 18-Dec-100 Re: carrboro by "H. Robbie said that his sister told him about her arch-nemesis when she was a kid, that one person who she hated with a passion. Now, after 30 years, she hates that girl even more! :-) So the song is about a girl (Sarah) who everyone thinks is so pretty and smart and whatnot, but the singer can't stand. The "1,000 Sarahs" part comes from lines talking about seeing 1,000 Sarahs around - she thought she'd killed her, but she multiplied instead. Fun song. - --Wade On Mon, 18 Dec 2000 Yfandes1@aol.com wrote: > In a message dated 12/18/00 2:30:31 PM Eastern Standard Time, > robeson+@andrew.cmu.edu writes: > > << Can someone give a summary of what this song is about?
