As to Schoolhouse Rock, I remember seeing it on TV way back when. What I don't get is why EFO doesn't want to play the Schoolhouse Rock Medley anymore. They said on the cruise that they will ignore future requests for the song. Do you know why they don't like it? I didn't get a chance to ask them on the cruise. - --- Scott Gartner sgartner@pingbot.com http://www.pingbot.com/ http://www.evg.org/~boise Get my PGP public key: http://www.pingbot.com/scottgkey.asc - -----Original Message----- From: Barth, Jamie [mailto:Jamie.Barth@LibertyMutual.com] Sent: Thursday, October 19, 2000 6:45 AM To: 'sgartner@pingbot.com' Subject: RE: Web site updated Scott - Great to meet you . . . you've no doubt learned the "Joe" story from others (in reference to the dance done by Julie's dad during Farmer Brown). I'm also glad to learn that someone else missed the entire Schoolhouse Rock era. I think I was in college by then. It seems to have had a greater influence than I originally understood on current friends. I had never heard of it until a few years ago. Due to our internal firewalls, I've been unable to listen to your recordings. Still, I was there and have the real memories with me. To me, the best part was getting to know the people behind the music, along with the other folks who support it. I think it was Robbie who said, when asked about the meanings behind the music, that the songs mean what they mean to you. Perhaps the next adventure will be a safari . . . whatever . . . it was a wonderful (and certainly colorful) time! Come to Boston and to Club Passim . . . http://www.clubpassim.org/ . We have a great time up here and are truly blessed by our music. The ink will fade with repeated washings. We can not suggest or know of any product preserve the marking. Perhaps an art and craft store could advise you. They may need to know that the Sharpie marker contains alcohol base ink. Thank you for e-mailing Sanford and for your support of our products! I was hoping for advice on what I could do to make the ink more stable in the fabric. Also, washing advice would be useful. I am concerned that, for example, sweat might make the ink unstable and more likely to wash out. If anyone knows how to fix the ink in fabric, > please forward it along. A mild acid such as vinegar should help fix the ink as long as the fabric is a natural fiber. (Check the label.) You can also go down to your local craft store, down to the fabric dyeing aisle, and see if they've got any kind of fixative for sale. (They probably do.) Make sure you get the right kind for your fabric (natural vs. synthetic) and dye type (alcohol-based, said the Sharpie lady). If I were you, I'd 1) try fixing the ink, and 2) consider washing it only by hand. Even the "gentle" cycle on your washer is way rougher on your shirt than you want. The rest of you dreaming of durably-autographed shirts may wish to mosey on down to either a craft store or a fabric store and buy a permanent fabric pen. Good luck... wear it with pride. :) - --nicole twn *** "Rides first, THEN food."--helpful advice from the California State Fair commission Visit Nicolopolis! http://wwwcsif.cs.ucdavis.edu/~carlsonn nmcarlson@ucdavis.edu ana.ng@tmbg.org carlsonn@seclab.cs.ucdavis.edu ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 19 Oct 2000 14:05:02 -0400 From: rhiannon richard Subject: RE: Web site updated I can maybe shed a little light on the subject. I asked them to play "schoolhouse rock" at the charlotte show, and Julie told me why they most likely wouldn't. It just doesn't go over well sometimes. Some audiences just don't "get" it...they never watched schoolhouse rock, i suppose. She said that sometimes when they play it it falls flat on its face. I was really sad to not get to hear the medly (i've never heard it live...just on bootlegs), but I totally understood why they wouldn't want to play it. Hopefully if they ever do another live album we can talk them into putting it on there! That would be cool. There is no product I know of that can protect the autograph on a cotton shirt from fading or running with repeated washings. Sharpies & Clothing markers are chemically different in make-up. The sharpie is great for Jerseys, Baseballs, hockey sticks photo's etc but not something you intend to wear regularly! Any arts craft suggestion I'd have would make the shirt unwearable or look terrible...One thing I can think of is attaching some sort of clear decal over the top and back of the signatures or a spray type sealant like a shelac that would discolor the shirt. yuck! I suggest to frame it with some pictures from the cruise along side it..that is if the shirts/clean and doesn't smell like beer& burritos :) *one other suggestion is maybe cleaning your shirt with *dryel* and not washing it in water at all... I'm prety sure this product will get the smell out and not effect the autograph.... Hope this helps!
