First..Sorry about setting off the Moxie Fervor yesterday...thanks to Ellen and all who cleared That lil bit of unpleasantness up? Hiatus to fans means one thing (break-up) and another to musicians (pursuing side projects!) Second: How many of you would be interested in participating in a combination Folk fest & live tv taping in Columbia SC, for the new pilot episode of "homegrown" ? Acts we are considering "Efo, The nields, and Ani Difranco. 40 minute sets for each...How much would you pay to get in? *if necessary considering the limited amount of tickets available around 250-300...It would be available nationwide on the web and tickets would be available through the Scetv web site and each groups web page...food provided + special rehearsal performance... *I'm specifically seeking input form those folks within driving distance. i.e. Greenville, Sc. "handlebar fans" who would wish to attend a special event not just a normal efo show. *My motivation is that I'm trying by hook or crook to get "homegrown revived" as an outlet for Independant musicians to receive nationwide exposure. Thank's all TomE ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 18 Oct 2000 17:25:12 -0400 From: "MVM" Subject: EFO Fan demographics Major delurk going on... I'm Vicki, 37, and so far the only one who's delurked from Canada. I'm near Toronto, and have never seen EFO. I got hooked through a friend in California, and am hoping to catch them at the Ann Arbor Folk Fest in January. My hubby and kids really like them too. Oh, yeah, unsu.. never mind. :) Vicki ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 18 Oct 2000 19:31:28 -0400 From: Don Semmens Subject: My late resume I've been out of town for the last week-and-a-half, the same time the EFO lists explodes! :-) I first saw EFO at Wolf Trap in 1998. I went there to see The Nields. I enjoyed the EFO set, and when they came to Richmond later that month I went and saw them and was WOWED!!!! What energy, what great music, what nice people. I remember asking Robbie what cd I should buy first ("Portable" had just come out) and he said something like "I'm not bullshitting you to make you buy the new cd, but the live one is most like what you heard tonight." Well, it really didn't matter, because after buying that cd I quickly picked up all the others. Since then I've seen them dozens of times from Falcon Ridge to a college dorm. I think my favorite show has to be the first time I saw them at The Birchmere in September of 1998 (also my first trip there). I remember the third encore, "Oh My Brother," was soooo beautiful and when they finished there was a moment of silence and then a lone "thank you" from the crowd. Man, I'm getting chills just writing this. Oh there was another bit where someone's cell phone rang and Julie said "Who is it?" and the audience member said "Jesus on the line." Mike says "Hey, we're the ones who do the jokes here!" :-) Ok, just a little bit about me. I'm a 43 year old college dropout (and proud of it) who fell into the technology department of a large corporate law firm which funds my CD and concert-going habit. I also enjoy science-fiction and highly recommend "Babylon 5" which is currently on the Sci-Fi channel. Oh, and here's a music recommendation: Jennie Stearns who opened for 10,000 Maniacs last weekend. Find out more about her at > http://www.jenniestearns.com > I can't recommend Jennie Stearns enough - go buy her CDs now!! Both Mourning Dove Songs and Angel With a Broken Wing are great, but I also highly recommend Running With Scissors, a group effort recorded at the Rongo in Trumansburg with Ithaca area artists. My favorite jennie Stearns song is Life is Strange, so so true! Also check out her husband, Richie Stearns, work, he's currently playing with Donna the Buffalo, but toured this summer with Natalie Merchant. He played in a great oldtime meets experimental band called The Horseflies - just amazing! Anyway, you can check out both Jennie and Richie's materials at www.funkyside.com. have fun and dance on!
