My name is Emily. I am 27 and live in Falls Church, VA. I first saw EFO at Guilford College shortly after Actually Not was released. I followed them for a few years while in school in NC to Ziggy's and other local shows. Then I moved to Atlanta for grad school at Georgia Tech. There I saw them at Eddie's Attic and Variety Playhouse. Then I graduated again, and moved to the DC area where I have enjoyed seeing EFO every chance I get. I think I have been following them for about 8 years or so. I drag as many friends as possible to every show and enjoy making new EFO addicts. _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. My name is Rebecca and I first started listening to EFO at Wake Forest University/Salem College my sophomore year. An ex-boyfriend got me totally hooked (actually, now that I think about it, it was two different exes, but that's a different story). I rapidly got my roommate and lots of others into the band, and must have seen them at Ziggy's 10-15 times, at least. I moved to DC and started seeing them at Bad Habits and now I work at Wolf Trap, where Ody used to work (we miss you Ody!) where we are lucky enough to have them play almost every year (including the most amazing show ever, with Pat McGee Band at the Filene Center). My last show was this past Thursday, when I went to Winston-Salem to visit my college roommate and witness the debate madness (I hope everyone saw the lovely Wait Chapel on TV last night) and see EFO at Ziggy's. Great show -- I miss Ziggy's (I know you Northern Virginia transplants can say an Amen to that!) That may be a new record. Well, a couple of things. This is a reminder to all of you that can't handle us: email majordomo@smoe.org and write "unsubscribe edheads" in the body. That should do a much better job of getting you off this list than, say, emailing us. Also, if the amount of mail is the problem, I'm pretty sure that there *IS* a little-known digest version. To do that, email majordomo@smoe.org and write "unsubscribe edheads" and then "subscribe edheads-digest"...at least that's how it should work. Last I checked the digest only had about 5 people on it, so it occurs to me that most people don't know that it exists. I believe that digests for lists that are on SMOE are sent out once a day. So, one email per day. I'm sure you guys can handle that. Pretty please? We all hate that we send you running as soon as we start talking about, well, anything. Hi All, I'm John, and I live in Chicago, IL. I saw the band for the first time in Bloomington, IN about 4 years ago while in grad school at Indiana University (I think the only time they have played Indiana, correct me if I'm wrong). If I remember correctly, EFO happened to be crossing Indiana heading back east when they were stalled by some bad weather and somehow landed a gig in Bobby Knight country. Since it was in the middle of winter break and the weather was lousy I think there were a total of 15 folks (including the wait staff) in attendance. Actually they pulled up to the place shortly before Hugh Blumfield finished his second set, lugged their gear in, setup and after a short tuning session blew us away! I was instantly amazed by Julie's voice and the group's harmony. For a couple of hours they took us on an awesome journey. My friend and I could not believe what we had just experienced. Neither of us ever thought that a band could strike a cord like EFO did that night. All we had planned on doing that Sat. night was grabbing a few beers, hearing a band or two, and shooting some pool, instead we walked out ED-HEADS! I walked out of there feeling that it was my mission to share their music with all my friends. After playing their CDs on numerous road trips with my wife, I finally was able to take her to a live performance at the Abbey Pub, in Chicago. They were awesome and it was great to see the fan base strong in the Midwest. Well I currently live in Wilmington, DE. I hail from Alexandria, VA. Since 96' I have lived in DE, Baltimore, Alexandria, and now I am back in DE beginning my second year here. My roomate originally from Wisconsin is also a big EFO fan. I have seen them here twice at the Delaware Theatre Company and at the Rockwood Ice Cream Festival (outdoors)! I started my attending in Baltimore where my friend took me to a show at that upstarirs bar in Fell's Point, Fletcher's! it just hit me! Saw them a couple times there then have gone to Birch a handful of times, Wolf Trap, Bad habits a couple, and Ram's Head last Thanksgiving. I have also seen Robbie solo a couple times too ( The Point & Bad Habits) I am 27 by the way. Haven't seen EFO since this summer. Might go to the Canal Club show in Richmond over Turkey Day. I go through phases w/ EFO. I need to see em soon though. Are there any XPN fans out there? Or Delaware Edheads? Make yourself known. That puts me in the middle of the fan pack. I discovered EFO thanks to an old man in a bar. It was 1994, I think. I was at Sequoia (an outdoor bar) in D.C. waiting for a girlfriend who never showed. A very nice gentleman (with graying hair...and close to twice my age) struck up a conversation with me. He was so unlike the usual bunch of yahoos at this particular bar that I spent the next two + hours talking to him. I am a singer, and he plays guitar, so inevitably we talked about music. By the end of the conversation, he had pegged me as an EFO fan-to-be and a Julie-Murphy-wanna-be. He invited me to join him at Bad Habits Bar & Grill (Va.) for one of their regular Tuesday night shows. We had a terrific time. I am grateful for Allen's insight that night, as I caught many a Tuesday night show after that and have seen every Birchmere show since (alas, excepting this coming November). For years I listened to a wide variety of music, never really having one favorite kind of music or one favorite band. EFO changed all that. I always have at least two EFO CDs in my car at all times, and have hooked my husband. Thank you, Allen! I think your story - going back so many years with the band - would be interesting. As far as I can see, I am the first person living in Rhode Island to take part in this, so woo-hoo for that. My name is Rich Fortgang. I am originally from Accokeek, MD. I am 22 and a graduate student in Ocean Engineering part-time at the University of Rhode Island. The other part of my time (aside from listening to EFO) is working for a sonar R&D company here. I was first introduced to EFO by Seth at South Main Cafe in Blacksburg. I was then a senior at VT (GO HOKIES!!!). I owe you big for that Seth. Thanks!!! Anyway, I was pretty much hooked right away. I guess it was New James Bond that did it that first time. I now own all of the band CD's (still working on getting Julie's and Robbie's) and a few live shows on CD as well as MP3's. I have to say that my fav song of theirs is North Pacific Rain. Great song. Well, I am happy to see that us New England Edheads will be able to see the band in the next few weeks as they make FOUR (count it FOUR) shows up in Mass. I hope to see you all at the Marblehead show and the Franklin show. Gotta squeeze my weekend around that somehow. Can't wait. Been too long since I saw them last. And hopefully I will be able to get to the Ram's Head show back home in Maryland the day after Thanksgiving with a few EFO-virgins. Gotta increase the fold. Well, take care all and see you folking soon I hope. Everyone else wrote so much! So, I will start over... My name is Dana Harold. I am 34. I live in Northern Virginia. My husband and I first went to see EFO at the Herndon Festival in 1993. We went to see them because we are originally from Ohio and thought "Hey!"...well, needless to say we loved the band. We have since seen them everytime they play at the Herndon Festival, Birchmere and The Barns at Wolf Trap. We have recruited many friends who are now loyal followers like us. We own all of the group's CD's and one of Julie's. I want to complete my collection when we see them at the Birchmere next month. EFO is always playing at our house, in the car, etc. In fact, my kids all want their faves played often. Daughter loves "Gravity" and "I Don't Think I know Me," One son loves "Old Dominion",another son loves "Jack Can't Cook" and last son loves "Stupid American." As for my husband and I, we just love all of them! Glad to know there are so many of us EFO fans!! ------------------------------ End of edheads-digest V3 #138 *****************************
