This was such a fun show. Lots of requests were made and they played most of them. One group of people had signs made up for the show, including, "Julie is one hot momma" and something about mike being totally cool, as well as song requests. One thing that I really like about Ziggy's EFO shows is that the band is always WAY hyper. Mike tried to convince everyone that he and julie had "hooked up". I'm sure that there was somebody out there that believed him, too. I got to talk to Julie and Robbie after the show (eddie and mike must've been hiding from me)... which is ALWAYS wonderful. I was super-sparkly with my roll on glitter, and I think julie liked it. I picked up a pick that robbie dropped and he said I could keep it (and it's the kind of pick that i LOVE). Overall it was a WONDERFUL show, but I won't write too much about it since it's already been reviewed. The next day I saw Lucy Kaplansky in Chapel Hill... and then Saturday I got up and drove to charlotte for round two of EFO fun. I got to charlotte about about 2:30 with NOTHING to do (harvey the rv wasn't even there yet). The Neighborhood Theatre is incredibally easy to find, I'm not sure I've ever had an easier time finding a venue. I drove around charlotte for hours looking for a mall or a bookstore or SOMETHING. Finally at about 5:00 I found a mall and walked around for a little while. Then I went back and got to the venue again at about 6:00. I sat in my car for a while and read/wrote for a little while until I saw people start lining up. So I went and got in line. I met a couple of very nice people who I ended up sitting next to during the show. I tried to get a seat in the front row, but the stage is TOO high, and I would've been looking straight up, so instead I went and sat in the second row. I brought my glitter in with me, I was going to let julie use it, but I didn't see her before the show, and she was wearing long sleeves anyhow. I was one of few (maybe the only?) to do the "babe the rocky mountains are gradually eroding" thing. Mike wasn't even doing it 'til he saw me. The slow songs last night were the BEST i've ever seen. "Atlantic" actually made me tear up, which doesn't happen often. My mouth was literally hanging open and smiling all at the same time. Eddie did an AWESOME drum solo on the drumpire. The longest drumpire solo I've ever seen...and one of the best. Oddly enough, he didn't do his djembe solo, but he wouldn't have been able to jump off the stage anyhow (although I DID see him jump off the stage at FRFF, so who knows). During both shows they tried to get the audience into some political talk, but it seems that their audience doesn't really care about politics too much. They did great impressions of Gore and Bush. Mike doing gore as "I am my own man" and Robbie being bush by sniffling. Then Julie jumped in and added to the Gore impression by sighing loudly. There were a few Nader cracks as well ("LET ME IN!!!" while pounding on the "door"). I thought it was odd that even in Winston-Salem (where there will be a big debate this week, driving through there on my way home thursday should be OH so much fun) it seemed that I was one of few who had actually seen part of the debate. They also cracked on the olympics a bit, wondering when the US became the ONLY country participating (note: for those of you that didn't see them...they coverage this year was supposed to be HORRIBLE). The set list from Charlotte: Old Dominion Loitering in the Lobby One Not enough gold in the world 20 thousand hearts monotony i don't think i know me payday in the village if i had a boat north pacific rain cleo and tony medly - ------------- omar's got a problem hail mary shy of redemption woman of faith great day atlantic jerusalem number 6 driver stupid american oh my brother drumpire solo-- 29 ways eddie's concubine - ------------- three fine daughters (they may have done one more encore, but I can't remember!) If anybody else was at this show I was in the second row, and wearing a yellow Falcon Ridge Folk Festival teeshirt. After the show I got to talk to Robbie, Eddie, and Julie for a long time (mike was mr. popular, so I didn't get to talk to him really). I was actually the last one to leave the place. I got to see more baby pictures of Liam (who is one of the cutest children EVER). Then I drove from charlotte to asheville, including going north on I85 when I should've been going south... for TWENTY MINUTES. I got turned around before I ever got to the interstate too. The trip home was awful because I was SO tired. I finally rolled in at about 3:00 a.m. Have I mentioned recently how MUCH I love EFO? They are always so kind to me, and for that I owe them a great deal of gratitude. But this is a long email already so I'll save the gushing for later. Yay EFO! - -rhiannon p.s. on a totally self-serving note, I've written my first few songs, if anybody wants to check them out. http://www.unca.edu/~rcrichar/poetry.htm -------- But on this green I can scream and wave my arms- "That Girl's Crazy"- seems i just fit right in -eddie from ohio -------- ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 08 Oct 2000 14:56:19 -0400 From: rhiannon richard Subject: tapes Did anybody tape the Ziggy's or Charlotte shows? Then comes on one of my favorite songs on the album and it hits me that it would be perfect for the whole band. Hitman!! It's got a bass line, a drum line and I am sure they could work it so that Julie comes in on the choruses. What do you think? Anyone else think that this could be a kick-ass EFO song? And if robbiemikejulieoreddie is reading this (and you think it might actually work) can I put in a request that it be played when you visit McCabe's in Santa Monica? Having moved from Blacksburg to Los Angeles, I am desperately counting down the days till I can get my EFO fix! Very smooth and relaxing to listen to. I need to correct you on one point. Woman of Faith is not on the Someday album. As far as I know, Robbie wrote that song in 1998, and it wasn't recorded until the Fishbowl album. If anyone has a difference of opinion, let me know. By the way, I heard the guys play last night at the Neighborhood Theater in Charlotte, NC. They rocked! Last time I heared them was in Carrboro, NC, which was, I believe, the last concert before Julie's maternity leave. Kudos to robbiemikejulieeddie for a great performance. My only complaint is that people were talking and laughing (disruptive noises from the bar in the other room) during the ballads (Oh My Brother, 20,000 hearts, etc.). The crowd wasn't very lively either. I think I was the only one in the crowd who pumped my fists in the air during the ancor of "3 Fine Daughters." RECOMMENDATION FOR THE GROUP: Please find a better place to play in Charlotte!!!!! It had been a year since EFO came to the Neighborhood Theater. Now I know why! Ahh yes, you are correct sir. I think the error came from the fact that he often sings Woman of Faith at his solo shows so my mind automatically associated it with his solo songs. At least there weren't beer bottles being thrown into trashcans and breaking, and drunk people smoking in front of the stage (don't get me wrong, i love ziggy's...but the crowd is VERY noisy). >I think I was the only one in the crowd who >pumped my fists in the air during the ancor of "3 Fine Daughters." No! I did, I did! But not very high, and I was in the second row, so you probably couldn't see me!!! (i was wearing a yellow falcon ridge shirt, green pants, and lots of glitter, incase you saw me). But I definitely did the "Babe the rocky mountains" thing. I'm who mike looked at when he realized he wasn't doing it. >RECOMMENDATION FOR THE GROUP: Please find a better place to play in >Charlotte!!!!! It had been a year since EFO came to the Neighborhood >Theater. Now I know why! I was talking to Robbie after the show, and he said that he figures that EFO has played more places in Charlotte than any other single city. He said they used to play awful bars and such. So given the choice, I'd say we should stick to the neighborhood theatre. It's definitely not my FAVOURITE place on earth, but the sound was good (especially for the slow songs), and the people weren't too drunk. My main problem is that they seats are too close to the stage which is too high. I don't understand why that front row is even there! - -rhiannon ------------------------------ End of edheads-digest V3 #131 *****************************
