He has a shaved head and he played the air guitar after the Aussies won one of the swimming relays. One of the Americans had said, "We will smash the Australians like guitars." So after the Aussies won, he stood on one of the starting stands and played the air guitar. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 2 Oct 2000 07:58:08 -0400 From: tmbgirl@juno.com Subject: Re: Aussie Swimmer ah man... it's like you guys need a swimmer to clear things up for you. here goes even though this has nothing to do with EFO: Michael Klim is an Aussie swimmer. He competed on the 4 x 100m freestlye relay with three other Aussies. The American Men have *never* lost that relay in the history of the Olympics - so Gary Hall Jr (America's fastest man) who's competing on the US team, feels the need to be obnoxious all the time and say things like "We'll smash the Australians like guitars." It happens all the time in swimming - it's a way to psych out your competitors. Just like Amy Van Dyken will spit in her competitor's lanes before the race or "stare them down" beforehand as well. It's a non-contact sport so we have to make up for it other ways. Anyway, when the Aussie men beat the American men in that relay it was obviously a huge upset - as they got the world record too. When you swim that fast, it's only fair that you get to rub what they said, in their faces. Here's a very very cheap plug for my bud's band, but i gotta do it... If anyone is in the Charlottesville, VA area on October 14th... pleaseplease go check out the Judith Edelman band playing at the Prism Coffeehouse. Judith played with EFO at the four corners folk fest (for the past two years?)... she's amazing, the band is awesome - and they're all reeeeeally nice people. The show is fairly cheap so come on out! you won't be dissapointed. (anyone at four corners that saw 'em play that wants to back me up?) take it easy, JOrdaN http://www.geocities.com/tmbgirl.geo/ http://www.radiofreecash.com/home.asp?ref=TMBgirl On Sun, 1 Oct 2000 23:12:39 -0700 "Ron Rosen" writes: > The Aussie swimmer's name is Michael Klim. Didn't the closing ceremonies remind you of Half-time at the Orange Bowl...More bad 80's bands than you could shake a stick at "working class man" Haven't heard that one in 15+ years...Paul Hogan & Kylie Minough!!!! eee gaddd It didn't seem very reverant to the spirit of the games at all...I didn't realize Sydney had a Disney theme park.... Why I Gripe *I attended the closing ceremonies here in Atlanta in 1996....Sorry Aussies' on that particular event we did a much better job.... He brought up Michael Klim, which I don't think is pronounced the same as Clem, because the singer from the particular band that was playing at that moment also had a shaved head and looked similar to Klim. ------------------------------ End of edheads-digest V3 #129 *****************************
