Welcome to all the newly initiated edheads from a relative old-timer (6 years this october and about 20 shows but i lost count) Sounded like a wonderful show... can't wait till they come back to philly sometime soon. I caught the band at a small show in delaware a couple months ago and they're really rockin' as hard as they ever have... with all these new tunes in the lineup, any word on the next album? It's a combination of the clubs, not wanting to over do local acts and a little dirty word called "dilution" the more a band plays locally the more likely the numbers of fans showing up will go down... Most booking agents for clubs use # formulas and keep track of how many people show-up even down to what day they perform...unfortunately it's about filling places up...Usually Efo likes to wait 6-8 months to return to a city...our turn in Atlanta is not until December!!!! Road trips are most certanly a GREAT thing! I've travelled SO many miles for EFO/Dar/Nields, and a few others. I've seen EFO *all* over North Carolina (once I see them in charlotte, I will have seen them in every section of the state from the farthest coast to the highest mountains), as well in New York. And I've seen the Nields in South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia (with the kennedys at this show), and New York. Oh, and dar in North Carolina, Virginia, and New York. I know for some of you this isn't possible...but it IS so much fun. Especially if you get to go see several shows in one trip. And don't worry about them looking at you funny if you go to several shows in a row... they would've looked at many of us funny long ago (or maybe they do?). Anyhow. Yay EFO! - -rhiannon p.s. i updated my EFO page (and someday soon i'll make it really spiffy like my nields page) http://www.unca.edu/~rcrichar/index2.htm just follow the link to "eddie's concubine" At 11:57 AM 9/11/00 -0400, you wrote: > >recent EFO trips include FRFF, "da plains," VA, and charlottesville, >VA. my advice is to *believe* mapquest when it tells you that it will >take you 3 hours to drive the 120 miles form DC to charlottesville. >however unlikely that might seem to you. > >peace, >ellen (and don't even ask me about road trips for other bands ;) ----------------------------------------- "I'm stopping traffic, cinemagraphic With my long black coat hanging down in the dirt And my hair clinging to my face in the rain Like a goddess from the cult of beautiful pain" -dar williams ------------- http://www.unca.edu/~rcrichar/index2.htm ----------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 11 Sep 2000 14:42:50 EDT From: "Rachel Nelson" Subject: Re: Non EFO Content: Bela Fleck Regarding your question about Bela Fleck recommendations: if you're interested in Bela's acoustic work, the must have disc is definitely "Drive." This CD is all instrumental, and it showcases Bela's bluegrass roots with some amazing compositions, supported by a cast of stellar musicians. If you're interested in his jazz-based non-acoustic stuff, the first self-titled album from Bela Fleck and the Flecktones is recommended as a good introduction. Have fun with your explorations of Bela's music, let me know what you think!! Who has traveled the farthest to see the band? Who has seen them in the most states? At the most different venues? I know I'm not the leader in any of these stats (by far), but I've got: 2.5 - 3 hours 4 states (VA, CO, IN, IL) soon to add NC 12 venues (that doesn't include all of the different owners of South Main Cafe) How are everybody else's numbers? Maybe we could talk the band into giving a prize for the most devoted Edhead (you listening out there, Mike?). Just curious, Clay Chilcoat ------------------------------ End of edheads-digest V3 #114 *****************************
