(paraphrased again) IL C'EST MOI. ACTUALLY, I ASKED ROBBIE THAT ON SEPTEMBER 30, 1999 AT ZYDECO'S IN BIRMINGHAM. AT THAT TIME EVERYONE ON THE LIST WAS DEBATING WHETHER IT WAS A BEAUTIFUL LOVE SONG OR THE HARMONICA THEORY OR SOMETHING ELSE. IN SPITE OF THE AUTHOR'S REVELATION, I STILL THINK MY FAVORITE EFO SONG IS A GREAT LOVE SONG. SURE, I TOOK THE "LIBERTY VALANCE" ROUTE, BUT I AM A ROMANTIC. > On Wed, 16 Aug 2000 Yfandes1@aol.com wrote: > > And did you guys all hear the story behind Boomerang?? I THINK IT IS ABOUT A MARRIAGE CAUGHT IN A RUT...THE RELATIONSHIP GONE STALE. IMHO, THE "WHISPERING GHOSTS IN A DOWNSTAIRS ROOM" ARE THE KIDS. IT SEEMS LIKE THE COUPLE HAVE GROWN USED TO EACH OTHER, HAVE FALLEN INTO A FAMILIAR ROUTINE, HAVE PLEDGED TO STAY TOGETHER DESPITE THE LACK OF COMMUNICATION & SPARK. I COULD GO ON, BUT I HAVE TO GET TO WORK NOW. 2 QUICK SIDE QUESTIONS: HOW MANY EDHEADS ARE ALSO WHOVIANS (Davros better answer)? How many Edheads on the list are in Alabama (Please let's get them back down here soon!)? I live in the D.C. area and got most of the references in the song, but this description really illuminated the humor. If you're out there, I know some northerners, west coasters and non-sports fans would appreciate another explanation! >>> 08/16 10:23 PM >>> Jack Can't Cooke is about Jack Kent Cook, the former owner of the Redskins and as you can tell from the song, quite a colorful character. I just recently obtained a copy of the 1999 Comic Relief compilation including the two-part spoof made for this year's charity night (Doctor Who:The Curse of Fatal Death) starring Rowan Atkinson with Jonathan Pryce, Julia Sawalha, Joanna Lumley, Richard E.Grant, Hugh Grant and Jim Broadbent. Very funny stuff, especially if you're a Whovian. The chorus- "It comes back round like a boomerang And hits you by surprise We all have our blind spots And some write in front of our eyes Tear a pillow over a hill And let those feathers fly Pick up each one seperately Soon you're gonna find out why" Anyhow, it pertains to a story about some town somewhere, and they got a new Priest (I think.. I don't exactly remember the details.) There was this one guy who didn't like the new Priest, so he went around spreading rumors about him throughout the town. The rumors spread- as rumors tend to do- and finally got back to the Priest. The guy who started them felt horrible about what he had started, so he went to the Priest, and asked how he could earn forgiveness. The Priest, being a clever and quick thinking guy, told him to go to the top of a nearby hill, and rip open a pillow on top of it. Then he had to pick up each and every one of the feathers from that pillow- and he would be forgiven. The guy said "THat's impossible!!! I can't do that!" And the priest said "No more can you recapture all the mean words you said about me." And I think that's the end of the story! I hope that made sense.. It's been awhile since I heard it! marie ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 17 Aug 2000 12:46:38 -0500 From: Buddy Brannan Subject: Whovian Edheads *Wakes up* What? (non-EFO question) Fear not! There are several EFO Fans in the Columbus metro area. Two less since my wife and I moved to California though. Having moved to Cols. for Grad school from Arlington we were excited that EFO was in town twice in the two years we were there. Once at Little Brothers and once at Ludlows in the Brewery district (Opening for Moxy Fruvous). Anyone at either of these two venues can get you hooked into the local music scene.
