Subject: Falcon Ridge: potentially long At the Festival, they mentioned several times that the festival tapes everything on the main stage but I don't think that that is available to us peons. Maybe if someone was really smooth they could get theyir hands on that. I'm pretty sure that a couple people taped this morning but I didn't know who they were... As for why thy didn't do any workshops, Robbie said that they were booked later and the schedule had already been made. Or something Oh, and the Festival was AMAZING !!! FYI - If you ever get an opportunity to catch Tracy Grammar and Dave ACK! forgot his last name! THey're from ORegon and they gave me chills. YOu have GOT to see these guys (and when I remember Dave's last name I'll pass it on - or does someone else who was there remember?) Vance Gilbert was funny and touching but had other engagements and so only played Friday night. There was this incredible song swap on Friday night with the Nields, Tracy and Dave, Janis Ian (who does things to a guitar that I didn't even imagine were possible), Patty Larkin and Jon GOrka. Yes, it was as breath taking as it sounds! BTW, if anyone knows someone who taped that set I would LOVE a copy. EFO had a great spot between Richard Shindell and Janis Ian. Every (duh) loved them. Set ... Jerusalem, Three Fine Daughters, Old Dom., Train Song, Operator, Irish Dream, work with me here people ... okay maybe it's a combination of the euphoria and the sun but I can't remember anything else. But, oh yes, there was more! The gospel workshop was rootin' tootin' revival fun. EFO did Great Day, and this song that I didn't recognize. Fruvous was surprisingly tame, I was expecting Blow Wind Blow or some variation there of but they did Swing Low Sweet Chariot and another song that I haven't been exposed to. Anyway, missed a couple main stage sets because of the Storyteller workshop but I heard via the vast rumor mill that Lucy Kaplansky and John Gorka were very good. (I love Lucy and after Friday night, John Gorka is an idol, I was distraught to miss his set. Okay, distraught is pushing it) The Nields wrapped it up and did wone of the best shows I've seen them do, Dave N. kept on saying how much he loved Falcon Ridge and how it was like home. It got a little touchy feely after that but everyone was at that place anyway ... What of Fruvous? I'm not going to cover their set because I'm sure someone on fruvous.com will do a smashing job of it. That is all ... it is tow in the morning and I'm going to bed in my stinky sleeping bag ... then ON TO CALIFORNIA! Eventually most everything should be available. Did anyone else find the Dance Tent a little too close to the workshop stage? During the Storyteller's Workshop (Stories, Poems & Tall Tales, Spoken & Sung), Mecca Bodega was on the dance stage. Mecca Bodega was overpowering at times. Daniel PS: I have a trade with Rob (? i think) could you drop a line so we can get caught up. I almost went back to the CD tent to pick up something of theirs, but I had already spent $100 and will have to wait until the next paycheck. :-) >Vance Gilbert was funny and touching but had other engagements and so only >played Friday night. I love Vance. He is such an incredible singer. He sang this song without ANY amplification. How he could sing after blasting that song was beyond me. >There was this incredible song swap on Friday night with the Nields, Tracy >and Dave, Janis Ian (who does things to a guitar that I didn't even >imagine were possible), Patty Larkin and Jon GOrka. I knew I'd love Katryna and Nerissa and Patty Larkin, but John and Janis just wowed me. Since I only attended on Friday, I didn't get to see anything else. :-( BUT I did hear Mike had to stay after class to clean the erasers after being late for the Workshop session on Friday afternoon. :-) Oh, the Baseball HoF induction ceremony was wonderful! don "Never apply a Star Trek solution to a Babylon 5 problem." -- seen on a bulletin board at Fermi Lab Don Semmens; Richmond VA; donsem@concentric.net ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 24 Jul 2000 22:01:40 EDT From: Kryst3nS@aol.com Subject: EFO at the Bowery Ballroom Hi guys, FRFF was awesome!! I brought my mom and my 7 year old sister. They both LOVED it. And what a surprise it was to find out that the charming couple sitting next to us in the dance tent turned out to be Julie's parents! That was such a hoot. Anyhow, I was wondering if any of you edheads attended their show in NYC at the Bowery Ballrooom? I would absolutely love to have a copy of it. They played many of my favorite songs, including Woman of Faith, Santa Margarita, Monotony, #6 Driver, and Great Day (my new fav). After the show, I got to see The Nields for the first time. They're so cool! Dan, a virgin edhead who I coerced into going with me was awestruck by Eddie. Eddie was more than happy to chat and sign our shirts. Sigh. EFO is so great. Anyway, is there anyone out their who can help me out? I have a bunch of shows that I could trade for. Kristin ------------------------------ End of edheads-digest V3 #82 ****************************
