Well the California shows were some of the best I've ever seen, (even that show at the Unitarian Church in Paramus New Jersey got topped by McCabes). They were amazing. The three shows I saw were sold out and packed and there was just a crazy amount of energy at all the shows. They were on fire at McCabes, I have never heard Mike be so funny and irreverent. The set was heavy on Fishbowl, with them doing all of the songs except for 20,000 Hearts and Bonnie Brook. They also did Gravity, Revolution, Operator, 3 Fine Daughters, and Great Day (if I'm missing something, be sure to pop in ). The virgin that I took said that Mike is "one damn funny guy that should have his own comedy show." Robbie got the audience to do a great big "Yeehaw" during Old Dominion. I wish I could remember more of the banter, but having driven eight hours to get there and then eight hours to get to the Santa Cruz show, my brain is a little fried. Santa Cruz was great, also. If any of you haven't seen or heard Lucy Kaplansky, I definitely recommend checking her out. (And be sure to ask for " A song about Pi", which is a, oddly enough, a song about pi set to a swing beat.) Nina Gerber is one of the best guitarists I have ever heard. The combination of her playing and Lucy Kaplansky's voice was a truly remarkable arrangement. This set was also heavy on the Fishbowl. They ended the show doing Water is Wide with Lucy Kaplansky and Nina Gerber. That was remarkable and memorable. Berkeley opened with Lowen and Navarro, who were great. There interpretation of Happy Birthday had be laughing so hard. Definitely some of the better folk I've heard. Myself and Nicole and a couple other Edheads met up at pizza joint around the corner from the Freight. Meeting up with other edheads was nice and I met some really cool people. The set, like Santa Cruz and McCabes, had a lot of Fishbowl, but also had Revolution, Great Day, 3 Fine Daughters and a couple other oldies but goodies. We also learned that Mike and Robbie are having "sympathy pregnancy". Nicole and I did some audience participation during the Train Song in the form of train whistles, which Mike said was "Cool because it was you guys." Which was sweet. A couple of things that I noticed and was curious about, Julie is no longer using her shaky egg. I couldn't really see what she was using but it looks like a little canister . Dos anyone know what happened to the Zucchini she used at Henflings a couple years ago? Do you think it will make an appearance again? I'll post a copy of the set lists ASAP, (I left them at home) and would love to hear other people's thoughts and impression on these shows. Jessica PS - Can I just say how good it is to be back on the list???? !!!! ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 15 Nov 1999 23:53:00 -0400 From: Don Semmens Subject: [edheads] EFO on KPIG Our own EFO was on KPIG radio on the 14th.
