If you requested the BHG or SM show and haven't heard from me yet, then I regret to inform you that they have been given away. I am sorry to send this to the listserv but it was a bit easier then sending an individual reply to each of the 30 or so people that requested the show. There were several people that requested the BHG show because they never received any word from their parent about their CDs and had lost the name of their parent. My advice: go to http://members.xoom.com/angwinje1/EFO/EFO_BHG.html and check on who it was and contact them. If you are still interested in the BHG show (and can not contact your parent), read the following segment of an email from Jeff Angwin . - ------- Hi Seth: If you still have anyone who wants the Last Bad Habits CD, why don't you send them my way. I just answered James and offered to burn a set for him (my cost is $11.20, including postage) I also have the 2/12/99 show, and can dupe that one for anyone who wants it ($7.20) - -Jeff - ------------ Also note that Kevin Wells volunteered to make a few copies of the South Main show as well. Adios. New to EFO and this list. Saw them at the Four Corners Folk Festival in Pagosa Springs, Colorado (a great festival for any who have ever thought of going). I was completely blown away. Checked out their tour schedule and it said they were playing in my hometown the day after I was getting back from this festival/wandering trip. As for their two sets the first was amazing. I didn't think they could top it but they did the next day when they brought out Chris Thile, Allison Brown, and Sarah and Shawn Watkins . If you have never heard of Chris Thile he is a mandolin prodigy. Absolutely amazing as is the other three. Sarah plays fiddle, Sean guitar and the three of them are in a bluegrass band called Nickel Creek. Allison Brown is a Banjo player with a very jazz feel to her stuff. Any of them are worth checking out. They all jammed on I Know You Rider>Lovelight>Rider medley they do. Just like the webpage says it was an amazing musical experience. The reason I go to festivals. I ended up seeing them again here in Salt Lake and then driving the next day to see them in a beautiful theater in Logan, about an hour and a half from Salt Lake. So, if anyone wants to hook a newbie up with some live stuff let me know. My taste lately has strayed from the folkie stuff to some newgrass so the trade thing might be difficult but then again who knows. Seeing EFO has definatly brought me back to the folkie fold. - -Dave "...live deeply, and wrest from life some of it's infinite possibilities." -Everett Ruess ___________________________________________________________________ Get the Internet just the way you want it. I'm pretty sure that you were probably innundated with e-mails such as this one - and your statement regarding a few copies has probably generated tons of requests. With that said, if at all possible, I'd love to possibly do a B&P trade for the show. Unfortunately, I don't have much to offer in the terms of a trade since the EFO tapes I have came from the MP3 files found on the web, and they contain small breaks between songs... Anyhoo, if you'd be willing to spin me a copy, let me know what you need and I'll get it to you. Thanks! Hello Fellow Edheads, I haven't posted in awhile, and I know the Subject is kind of vague but that stems from the various things I would like to cover here. 1) I haven't taken the opportunity to weigh in on "Fishbowl." I held off my comments for quite awhile because I really didn't know what to say about it for the first few months that I had it. I bought it and played it a bit, but it never really took over a big portion of my listening time as all the past CDs did. I found it entertaining, but it almost sounded TOO EFO for me. I read all the reviews being posted to the mailing list and checked out all the things people mentioned that they liked, but all the things I kept on focusing on seemed like classic EFO to me. Something I definitely liked, but nothing that "excited" me. I put it away as I moved back to college and listened to a few other CDs I had collecting dust and one day I decided to try "Fishbowl" again. For the first few times through I got the same feeling about it that I had all summer, good, but nothing different. THEN it happened, I was working on a programming assignment and had the CD playing in the background over and over for a couple of hours when it struck me, wait, what am I listening to? The song was "Bonny Brook" and I played it again, and again. I was completely hooked. The CD finished and repeated again and I started to pick up on other stuff, "Stupid American" and "Fifth of July" finally clicked lyrically, "Woman of Faith" and "Twenty Thousand Hearts" grabbed me like Schaefer tunes usually do, and "Irish Dream" and "Bonny Brook" sent me into musical bliss. I was finally picking up on the originality of this album. I am in love with this CD, it may even be my favorite one yet. Now that it has been 4 months since the CD came out many Edheads have probably found newer selections that are taking up their CD player, but if you think about it, put in "Fishbowl" and rediscover or discover for the first time what truly makes this CD so excellent. The guests, the new musical directions, the lyrical achievements, discover the originality of this fabulous CD. Excellent job EFO. =) 2) Now for number 2, this one is slightly off topic, but now that I've divulged my new found love for "Fishbowl" I'm going to ask for suggestions about other CDs and even any thoughts people might have about one CD in particular. I recently ( well, actually Tuesday at 12:00 am ) purchased a new CD in a vein that I haven't listened to in quite awhile, but NIN's "The Fragile" has been number one on my must purchase list since... well, probably February of 1997 when Trent was rumored to be working on a new album. Now, 2 and half years later, I finally have it and I must say that it is a great musical expression. ( For those of you who don't know, this is NOTHING like EFO, electronic textures and synthetic marching bands is about as far from EFO Folk as you can get. ) I really haven't stopped listening to the 23 song statement since I got it, but part of me is longing for something on the complete opposite end of the spectrum. When I went to bed last night I realized that I could really go for some Guster or Moxy Fruvous. Not that they are really much a like, but at the moment that I what I feel like I need. I've had my eye on "Thornhill", but I just haven't purchased it because I got so into "Fishbowl" and by the time that I was willing to try something new "Fragile" was barely days away. But now I'm looking again at it for my next purchase, and I was wondering what people think of it. I absolutely LOVE "You Will Go To the Moon" and "Bargainville," I own those two and quite regularly pull them out for a spin, but I never really got into "b" or "wood." Any ideas as to why that might be, and if there is any rhyme or reasons to that, what might my view on Thornhill be? Mostly I'm just interested in hearing what other people think of it. And of course the other part is does anyone have any suggestions of other groups or CDs I might try. I guess another name that I could throw out there for stylistic guidance would be Vertical Horizon... but music like "Running On Ice" not the electrified "Everything You Want." Any ideas out there? Thanks for listening to my rambling, I hope people got something out of number one, and I'm also kind of hoping that number two starts some discussion up again. :) That and I'd really like to put my brain to ease... if I hear the opening of "Goldfly's" "Great Escape" again I might just go crazy. =) Bryan ------------------------------ End of edheads-digest V2 #152 *****************************
