Both shows had a common theme: HEAT! :-) Last night at Trax was like a little nostalgic trip to last weekend's great outdoor festival in upstate New York. No, not the one in Rome, NY although Mike did talk me into driving over there to loot and pillage. :-) I won't post too much about FRFF except to say the weekend was on of the highlights of the year for me. There was so much going on, all of it enjoyable. Highlights included the Sunday Morning gospel workshop featuring the new song "Great Day" (Great Dane??? a gospel song about a dog?), and an unscheduled song circle after midnight on Saturday with many local folk singers (Jess Klein, Lori McKenna and Kris Delmhorst to name a few). Saturday I was wearing my EFO t-shirt and a few people told me how much they enjoyed them the night before. Plus a group next to me kept saying (surfer-dude voice) "Folkin' Excellent", which was funny the first 10 times. :-) Last night's show at Trax was a lot of fun even though it was sweltering. It was certainly fun watching Julie trying to kick off her shoes and socks while singing. :-) They played every song off of Fishbowl except Good At That, Bleecker to Broadway and Bonny Brook (a "fishbowl sandwich" Mike said, opening with Fifth of July and closing with Atlantic. They premiered "Great Day" in Virginia. I can't say enough about this song. Incredible a cappella gospel feel with a bit of jazz thrown in. Eddie was fantastic as usual. How the hell he played his usual incredible solo in that heat is beyond me. I think it was that motor oil-sized can of Fosters that helped. Looking forward to seeing EFO hit Richmond at Alley Katz next month. don Lochley: "Capt. Gideon, 'Security' happens to be my middle name.
