It usually gets *cold* at night. Last year during the Nields mainstage set around 11ish I was wearing several layers and bundled in blanket in shivering. This year Thursday night I was still up at Camp Sha La La at 1am with no shirt on. I was hoping we'd get a short thunderstorm to break the heat wave, but since it only came on Saturday we only got the (very slightly) cooler weather for one day. > EFO definitely made a strong impression on the crowd! I hope all of you edheads who were there filled out your surveys and listed EFO in the "6 artists you feel must return next year" category. Falcon Ridge has been resistant to booking EFO in the past and finally decided to do it because so many people listed them on the surveys last year. But I think their position is secure now. Julie tells me that Ann Saunders told her she liked their main stage set, and then after Sunday Ann again talked to her and said she'd never seen so many people come out for the Sunday morning gospel wake up. Indeed it was the first time I've gone to that, all three past Falcon Ridges I've been at the Workshop stage for the early morning slot. Oh, and Julie also says the people who handled the reimbursement for the merch table told her that EFO was the #4 seller this year!!! I haven't verified this, but it's very likely to at least be close to accurate, and I think it means they broke the Falcon Ridge sales record for a first time act (all those who sold better than EFO were "old favorites" who have been at several past Falcon Ridge festivals) > we also saw them onstage at the end of, i *think* the cry cry cry > set for an all star encore. (or was it the summer's eve song swap? > oh my sun drained head...can someone help get these details > accurate?...if only i had my film back!) That was the end of The Nields encore set. They did a rather short set on the mainstage, and then when they came back for an encore they brought The Kennedys on with them and did a whole series of songs together. For the last one, they did What's That I Hear and invited all their friends on stage who were there. The people who came on included all of EFO, all of moxy fruvous, Ellis Paul, and several others, along with The Nields and The Kennedys. > ah yes...the lyle lovett cover. i remember now, esp the comments > about hair :) the other guy on harp was david tamulevich, > both of of mustard's retreat and fleming-tamulevich, the booking > agency for EFO (and 11 others at falcon ridge) Bob showed me some photos they had taken at the festival of all the Flem-Tam artists together. They were quite a gathering. In one of the photos, it turned out to be three members of EFO plus Ani :) -- Cos (Ofer Inbar) -- cos@leftbank.com cos@polyamory.org -- WBRS Waltham 100.1 FM -- info@wbrs.org http://www.wbrs.org/ "I am the whore of musical Babylon! The vocals sound really thin....definitely not the full, rich vocal blend that I'm used to hearing. Am I the only one that hears this, or is something really different? I was so surprised to find my favorite bluegrass musicians giving their magic picking to add to the song. Jerry Douglas, Bela Fleck, and Sam Bush, what great musicians!!!! Does anyone know how this union came about? I highly recommend their solo albums. I guess after hearing it a dozen times live plus having it on a few show tapes, it seems weird to have all those other instruments in there. Also as with alot of the studio stuff (not just EFO but most bands), the energy level on the song seems controlled, whereas when they perform it live I always feel they feed off of the crowd. The studio version is nice, but give me the FRFF version anytime! I'd heard the live version several times (including last weekend at Falcon Ridge... more on that in a sec) and love it, but was blown away by the backing instrumentals on the studio version. If you're going to spend a wad of money on musicians, buddy, they're it. Whew. (And even better if they came for free -- I really don't have any clue on that point.) Falcon Ridge: what a blast. Julie's dad really got the crowd going during 'Farmer Brown,' and I got to shower to their gospel-flavored performance Sunday morning - what a thrill! (and not just because I smelled better after the shower) With a 14-month-old in tow, it was difficult to get to the workshop stage much, but it really didn't matter. We had a blast anyway. ps: watch out for the killer tents. (-: Stephen N.
