Nicole, Cos I was expecting to see reviews posted Monday AM? ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 27 Jul 1999 12:57:11 -0700 (PDT) From: "Amy J. Putnam" Subject: review of the falcon ridge folk fest (long) i'm also a little surprised that no one has posted anything, so i'll jump on it. this was only my second falcon ridge fest, but what a blast! the weather was mostly good (one hour of torrential rain on sat afternoon) and the music was spectacular. EFO definitely made a strong impression on the crowd! they had the unenviable time slot, for their solo mainstage set, of right after dinner on friday. it gave them the double duty task of drawing people back from dinner and dealing with intense sun right in their faces as it set behind the ridge directly opposite the stage. i dont recall the whole set list, but among the songs (in no particular order): woman of faith, old dominion, fruited plain, farmer brown (complete with julie's dad leading the audience in a rousing dance during the a capella harmony), the bridge, loitering in the lobby, operator... someone else will have to help with the rest. i weore my EFO folkin' excellent shirt that day and got lots of comments. saw lots of others too! EFO also had 3 other stage appearances. two were workshops, smaller gatherings with a bunch of songwriters doing something on a theme. the first of these was "songs we wish we wrote". i'm having another brain skip in that i can only tell you that their second selection was a blues traveler song. this workshop was with vance gilbert, cliff eberhardt, greg brown, vanida gail, and mustard's retreat. the whole workshop was great, but one of the finest moments (to be repeated later) was EFO backing vanida gail in a killer cover of nanci griffith's "it's a hard life". it just blew the original away. EFO's second workshop was sunday afternoon, and i had to miss it because my rde home wanted to leave early. there was also another mainstage appearance, sunday morning for a gospel wake up. julie wrote a beautiful a capella song just for the occassion. it was wonderful. for this set, they shared the stage with mustard's retreat, chris and meredith thompson, and vanida gail. vanida did hard life again...i cant get it out of my head! EFO did their new song, operator, and one other (which i will probably remember as soon as i send this). the set was closed with amazing grace. it was a marvelous way to start the day. we also saw them onstage at the end of, i *think* the cry cry cry set for an all star encore. (or was it the summer's eve song swap? oh my sun drained head...can someone help get these details accurate?...if only i had my film back!) overall, they were a force to be see and heard, and i think they had to have won over MANY new fans. my intro tape (which i call EFO 101) was a hit on the ride out from boston. i took lots of photos which i will post when i get them back (keep your fingers crossed that they turn out well....) ok, i've rambled long enough. anyone want to add anything else? _________ amy p. \ / Who holds your hand pegasus@crl.com \ / When you're alone monk@world.std.com \ / the original photo monk \ / --Patty Larkin http://www.crl.com/~pegasus ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 27 Jul 1999 16:48:06 EDT From: CBonfig1@aol.com Subject: Re: review of the falcon ridge folk fest (long) In a message dated 7/27/99 4:12:03 PM Eastern Daylight Time, pegasus@crl.com writes: << the first of these was "songs we wish we wrote". i'm having another brain skip in that i can only tell you that their second selection was a blues traveler song. >> First number was "If I Had A Boat". A great way to wake-up! thank you! i know someone would remember better than me! i should mention that one of he other highlights was from the moxy fruvous set. to close, they did a hilarious ditty written for the fest about the creeping killer tents (which indeed did seem to be everywhere). they worked in the names of as many artsts from the weekend as possible, and EFO was among them. it was very funny! _________ amy p. \ / Who holds your hand pegasus@crl.com \ / When you're alone monk@world.std.com \ / the original photo monk \ / --Patty Larkin http://www.crl.com/~pegasus ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 27 Jul 1999 17:15:03 -0400 From: "Troy A.
