I had a no idea a banjo could sound like that... in fact, I had to pick up a Bela Fleck & the Flecktones CD (specifically, "Flight of the Cosmic Hippo"). This album marks the first time I've been familiar with the (ok, SOME of the) live versions before hearing studio versions... I've been having fun mentally comparing versions. :) Aside from Old Dominion (love the banjo!), I think Fifth of July made it across particularly well... interesting to hear Julie harmonizing with herself. :) OTOH, I think I like the live Minnesota 1945 better... it was sparse and haunting and cool, and now it's got that country-twangy thingy in the middle of it. :| As far as the stuff I hadn't heard goes, I'd just like to say that I've adopted "Good At That" as my theme song. :) And is it just me, or does "Bonny Brook" kick serious butt? Must go before I spend all night talking about EFO instead of programming. :) - --nicole twn *** "Glory is fleeting, but obscurity is forever."--Napoleon Bonaparte Visit Nicolopolis! http://wwwcsif.cs.ucdavis.edu/~carlsonn nmcarlson@ucdavis.edu ana.ng@tmbg.org ncarlson@mail.arc.nasa.gov ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 2 Jun 1999 18:08:17 EDT From: EFOcrew@aol.com Subject: EFO: Good at That/ VACO on Tuesday nights You're welcome, for bringing back that wonderful song, "Good at That." I will take full credit for harassing the band to continue playing the song, which is my personal favorite as well as my theme song. I was so excited when they told me that it would be on the new CD. I am very pleased with the way the song turned out. I think Fishbowl is their best studio release yet. I hope everyone is enjoying it as much as I am. I have been playing it on Tuesday nights at the Virginia Coalition shows in honor of them. Speaking of VACO...since Bad Habits has closed, VACO (EFO's Tuesday night replacement) has moved the Tuesday night venue to Whitlow's on Wilson. Last night was the first Tuesday there, and everyone had a blast. The crowds are getting bigger every week. So, if any of you are finding yourselves missing the Tuesday night shows, come check Virginia Coalition out sometime. You never know, maybe one of these days I'll be able to drag an EFO band member or two away from their families/homes to come out and see them. (Hint, hint... Eddie& Margaret, Julie & Greg...you guys don't have kids : ) Anyway, hope everyone is having a good spring...I can't wait until Friday...I get to do EFO again at the Herndon Festival...make sure you come out early enough to catch the Nields (5:30 showtime, I think). Later! CB ------------------------------ End of edheads-digest V2 #97 ****************************
