I was just using the Hokie topic as a starting point to my observation that EFO shows are quite different depending on the venue. I would still be interested in other people's feelings on that subject. As for the rest of my message, I'm sorry for wasting your time having to read it. Actually, it's ironic that I'm appologizing this way, seeing as this message has nothing to do with EFO (note the sarcasm in my voice that you can't hear over email). I assume the "CD Release Party" mentioned means the two upcoming shows at the Birchmere in Alexandria on 4/30 and 5/1, at which the new CD will supposedly be released. Kev - -- Kevin B. Great stuff :-) the cd release party is April 30 and May 1, I think, and it's at the Birchmere which is in Arlandria (the joining of Arlington and Alexandria), so it's quite accessible to you. Let me introduce myself, now that I'm out of lurker status :-) I'm Aleigh...I've seen EFO about 4 times already (the first time being last October or so, so it's been quite frequent since then!) I live in Arlington, VA, wonderfully close to where they play a lot of the time...I saw them once at Bad Habits (which is quite good, seeing as how I'm not 21 yet, and had to do a little finagling [sp?] to get in the place...and finally got in, thanks to my wonderful boss, who's also a fan). I've also seen them three times at the Birchmere. Other music I enjoy includes They Might be Giants, Moxy Früvous, Dave Matthews Band, XTC, that type of fun stuff. :-) Aleigh ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 25 Feb 1999 15:26:16 -0500 (EST) From: cos@wbrs.org (Ofer Inbar) Subject: suggesting venues Nicole Carlson wrotes: > On Wed, 24 Feb 1999 Bdupa@aol.com wrote: > > Sounds like you might have some pull with the band since you are an honorary > > swag peddler. As a "random edhead", you *do* have pull with the band. Everyone on this list does. If you go to their shows, buy their CDs, tell your friends about them, then you've got pull. As an independent band, EFO is not beholden to any corporate machine. They can do what they want, and they really do want to make their fans happy. If you make a suggestion to them, they will listen. > and how I got to be honorary swag person boils down to the band > doing me a favor, not vice versa. (I was underage at a 21+ show > last summer, and they snuck me in through the back by claiming I was > a merch person.) :) See? :) You're "just some random edhead", but when you couldn't get into a show they did you a favor. (You're referring to the Henflings show, aren't you?) > It really isn't my place to be suggesting different venues, Sure it is. EFO doesn't work through large regional or national promoters. They can only play venues that they know about or have some contact with or have been told about. They're often looking for new venues to play in. One way for them to find venues they don't already know about, is if people who have been to those venues tell them about them. When I saw EFO in Cleveland this December, they mentioned that they'd wanted to play Cleveland for a long time but didn't know of an appropriate venue, until moxy frvuous played this place and that's how they found out about it. IF you know of a cool venue near you that EFO has never played it, it's possible they just have never heard of it. Tell them about it, and if it's appropriate for them, they may very well use it.
