[Jeff Angwin Subject: EDHEADS: Last BHG Show CD Tree: We're almost there! Hi EdHeads! I've been working on putting together a Last BHG show CD-R tree since the week of the show, and have had great help in putting it together from some fine Edheads out there. The reason I've been mostly silent about it until now, is that the road toward getting first rate master material has been really tough: For instance: - - A DAT tape copy of the entire show was stolen off of the front porch of the person mailing it to the other person who was going to master it to CD before Fed-X could pick it up - - The MP-3 copies posted online, although great to listen to, were just not of the quality that I wanted. MP-3's are compressed sound files, and there is a quality loss when they are compressed to MP-3 and expanded again. - - The VHS copy of the show, again while a good copy, was good, but not perfect in my test pressing. The tape I received was an analog copy of an analog master. Also, being an analog copy, I had to pump it into my computer via an analog channel in order to digitize it to CD. Just too many analog hops, and the resulting CD showed it. BUT, today, I just received a CD set of the show that has a (mostly)digital heritage. It was recorded in MD format and has made only one analog hop. There has been no compression introduced (other than it being an MD master) This is the master recording that WAS converted to MP3 and uploaded to the net. So, I will now read the CD's into my computer and prepare the master for the CD tree. This will give everyone on the EFO mailing list an opportunity to receive this great show on CD for only the cost of blanks and postage. I do sincerely apologize for the long delay in getting the material out to you all, but I am a stickler for quality, and I did not want to rush into starting a tree without having the very best master that was possible. I hope you all understand. So, stay tuned. As soon as the master is ready to go, I will announce a CD tree for the show! (PLEASE wait until the announcement!) Best regards, - ---Jeff--- ------------------------------ End of edheads-digest V2 #23 ****************************
