Wow, I'm so excited someone else has discovered just how amazing Donna the Buffalo is! They are definitely a band not to be missed. Almost all of the band members play in other bands as well as side projects (Red Hots, Bubba George) and the entire band with a big change on instruments makes up an incredible band called Zydeco Experiment. In addition to everything Paul (Ned) said they also but on a great folk festival in Trumansburg, NY every year called Grassroots. It's a four day festival with all kinds of music - folk, zydeco, cajun, roots rock, old timey, bluegrass. Best festival I've ever been to! And as far as festivals go really cheap...I can't remember exactly but I think it was $45 in advance for all four days - can't beat that! So check them out!!!!! Smiles, Wendy :o) ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 16 Dec 1998 19:23:42 EST From: EFOcrew@aol.com Subject: EFO: A Personal message to YOU, from EFO Hey all! The band asked me to forward this message to y'all! Bob and I had a blast on Tuesday! Thanks to everyone who was there. Happy Holidays! CB ************************************ A MESSAGE FROM THE BAND We had a blast wrapping up our 7+year Bad Habits Tuesday residency last night - thanks to all who attended. Many from all over the planet Earth have sent their warm wishes onto us who could not attend, and we missed having you. We do have a surplus of Commemorative Programs (low budget, yes, but choc-full of all the things you never needed to know about EFO). If you'd like your own copy(ies) - just send a Self-Addressed-Stamped-Envelope to EFO's Final Tuesday Program P.O. Box 7431 McLean, VA 22106 please allow several years for delivery (you never know with our Postal Service- probably just a week) Merry Holidays, efo ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 16 Dec 1998 19:32:58 EST From: EFOcrew@aol.com Subject: EFO: What about Bob? Pre-PS: Sorry you're getting this twice, Mark, but I forgot to change the To: addy from yours to the edheads list's. Mark wrote Geoff and I a personal Thank You for the McCabe's show and the Handlebar show, but he forgot to thank Bob (probably because of his (Bob's) lack of making his email addy available to the public). Here is the note I was going to send to him, but I thought that you other Edheads might benefit by reading it as well, so here it is: Mark, Thanks for the compliment! You do realize that you are forgetting to credit someone. I mixed the show at McCabe's, but Geoff didn't mix the show at the Handlebar. He recorded the show and did a fantastic job with the production of the 3 disc set. (Thanks Geoff!) Bob McNichols is EFO's main soundguy. He mixed the Handlebar show, and mixes them at most of the big shows. I am merely their monitor engineer who is filling in so Bob can spend some time with his lovely wife and daughter. I am pretty good at what I do, but Bob is the master. He not only gets the band sounding good, but he plays the mixing console like an instrument. He uses the effects to add a little zip to what's going on onstage. Reverb on certain snare notes and the tamborine really do make a difference, don't you think? If you've ever heard a noise that sounded like a train during the train song, that's Bob, using the delay in a way that I can only dream of. Likewise, he is the one who adds a little (OK a lot) of extra low end to Robbie's vocal when necessary to make him sound as much like Barry White as any balding white Jew can. (BTW: There's a lot of love in that "balding white Jew", so don't worry, I'm not being mean when I write that.) Listen carefully to the end of the "Old Dominion" the next time you see a show (esp.with Bob mixing), and you'll hear what I'm talking about. I know it's not your fault that you forgot to credit Bob. He gets an intro from the band every night, but I am so much more visible (on stage and in the email) that people frequently give me credit for mixing everything. I am here to say that while Bob isn't quite as social with the fans at shows, he is the one responsible for giving EFO the "Larger than Life" (OK, "Larger than Folk") sound that they have now. He (and recently I) travels with the band to make them sound as good as the system/room will allow, during even the shortest of sets and on the smallest of stages. Next time you see a show, take a minute to see who is mixing. If it's Bob, please go tell him how much you appreciate his hard work and musicianship. He has been my best friend (aside from my boyfriend, Paul, whom you might have seen mixing Pat McGee Band shows) for the past five years and he is the one responsible for getting both Paul and I into doing sound. Thanks, Bob. And thanks to you, the reader, for listening. CB PS: A bootleg is an illegal recoding that someone has made to sell and profit from. A live recording is a recording made with permission from the band which will not EVER be sold for profit! Trading recordings is OK, but the traders should never make an actual profit. Geoff and I have traded recordings for other shows, blanks & postage, and cash, but we have never profited from these trades. The money you give for recordings is to cover tapes or discs, postage, mailers, wear & tear on the equipment, and a bit for us for the time it takes to make the copies. Terminology is everything! Please be careful when using the term "Bootleg". Thanks! In a message dated 98-12-14 20:15:26 EST, you write: << Just got the bootleg of the Handlebar, and am completely blown away by this cd! It is such an outstanding package, that it deserves a quick public note, along with a huge pat on the back to Geoff for putting it together. >> ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 16 Dec 1998 20:02:11 -0500 (EST) From: jreiser@ecoutez.com (Jason A. Reiser) Subject: Bad Habits - DAT for Tree? Who's got the goods? Since Jeff's source fell through, can anyone please provide a digital seed of this show for a tape tree? I'll trade DAT (EFO or other cool stuff) or send b&p if you prefer. I have a professional digital audio workstation, and I'm willing to take the time to convert this over to CDRs for a DAT/CDR/cassette tree. I imagine there were several tapers there. Anyone setup a pair of nice mics instead of taking a board feed by any chance? I'd like to send the best possible tape down the tree. 44.1kHz preferred to avoid the resampling (though you'd be hard pressed to hear it anyway.)
