It's the same as a Tape tree, but the medium for distribution is CD's instead of tapes. Here goes: A CD tree is a way to distribute a CD or CD set of a show that has been recorded. The CD Tree manager collects the names of people who want to participate by announcing the formation of a tree and a signup cut-off date. It's assumed that the tree manager has a single copy of the show, of course. (A digital copy of, or an original digital recording of the show) The manager sets up a tree, where each "branch" person has a certain number of sub branches. 5 is a good number, but it depends on what each individual branch person wants to do. So the manager (the "seed") makes say, 5 copies of the CD and sends it to 5 branches. Each branch (or parent) makes 5 copies and sends it to their branches, (or children)etc. The last level are known as "leaves" and they don't send CD's to anyone. Therefore there is space for people without CD recording / copying equipment to still receive CD's Payment is in the form of Blank CD's and Postage ("B&P") or trades. It's up to the parents to contact their children, or vice-versa to arrange the trade. In all this is a great way to do distributions. Compare it with CB's recent chore of making an distributing the McCabes tape. With CD's too, there's no degratation of the sound as you move down generations, so the tree concept is ideal! - ---Jeff--- ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 10 Dec 1998 14:05:41 -0800 From: Jeff Angwin Subject: edheads: Last Bad Habits CD Tree Wow There's a lot of interest in participating in a CD tree. (especially leaf requests :-) ) Fantastic! I've got a line on a seed recording too! Please, don't request to participate just yet, I want to make sure that I do have the seed recording. When I do, I'll post a tree announcement, and I'll include the information that I'll need to get the tree started. If you've already contacted me, please contact me again, with all the informatioin, after I announce the tree. Thanks, all! - ---Jeff--- ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 10 Dec 1998 22:20:53 -0500 (EST) From: jreiser@ecoutez.com (Jason A. If someone wants to clone a DAT for me, I'll gladly run a tape tree so we can all enjoy this show. Someone *will* be taping the show on DAT, right? I mean, I can send a deck down to a DC area fan if necessary, but I assume there will be some fans there with DAT equipment already.
