I read it, it's kind of neat. :) It'll be interesting to see what gets picked, and why, and who'll be the first to sue the state of VA for the mental anguish caused by losing. Just kidding. I think. Re: "The Old Dominion" slipping to 2nd place in the Roanoke Times poll: heck, it's only a newspaper poll. I think the only tally that'll count is the number of notes on Senator whatshisname's desk. Anyone want to write the Washington Post and tell them that "California, Here I Come" is NOT California's state song? Honestly, what kind of research do these guys do? It's right there on the state website. - --nicole the "TMBG tomorrow night! But if it doesn't, and unfortunately that's the large majority, then it's really not going to make a difference. The inverted signal will just be left alone basically. No big deal - if you're using good quality short cables, you should have much noise to deal with anyway. >True, an RCA output does not make a board a piece of garbage, but the boards >Bob and I drool over and really enjoy mixing on don't even have 1/4" outputs. >The REALLY nice consoles have EVERYTHING balanced (XLR or even multi-pin). >Bob and I do not see this quality of gear very often, but I still don't see >too many good sound boards which have RCA outputs. Please name a few if you >know of any... Pretty much all Mackies that I've seen, including the 8-bus line, include an RCA tape loop. While they're nice boards, they're nothing to drool over I guess. Still, they seem to be the affordable status-quo of small clubs these days. Many Tascam boards offer RCA i/o. I can't say I've ever seen a board that only offered XLRs for everything, though I'm told that Paradigm made something like this years ago. I can see not using 1/4" outputs in favor of XLRs, especially for long runs to power amps, but fortunately many clubs do this... which leaves the 1/4" main outs open for us tapers! ;) I wouldn't imagine that an XLR only setup would be easy to work with, especially for aux sends, or inserts, but that's another story... Here's a list of some Radio Shack parts that will get some of you started taping shows... Assuming that you're starting with a VCR or something that has RCA inputs: 42-2356 $6.99 12 foot pair - RCA cables you can get better gold ones, but these are a nice start 274-328 $2.39 pair of RCA to 1/4" adapters so you can use your RCA cables when the SBD has 1/4" outputs 274-303 $2.49 adapter - RCA male to *two* RCA female (get two) so you can share the signal with another taper 274-369 $3.69 1/8" stereo plug to RCA females so you can patch out of a Walkman type plug on portable DAT or MD or if you're starting with a DAT or MD portable with 1/8" stereo jacks, get the above, and: 42-2475 $4.49 1/8" stereo to 2 RCA plug pair 274-864 $2.99 RCA female to female adapter (get two) good for extending cables if necessary 42-2607 $9.99 1/8" stereo to 1/8" stereo (male both ends) patching in/out of similar portable decks and if you've got a digital recorder, consider getting the appropriate digital i/o cable so you can share the same signal with other digital tapers... all bit for bit. There are some other caveats, but that's a much longer (and further off topic) post. addicted to taping? who, me? http://www.ecoutez.com/jason/tapes/ See ya, Jason ------------------------------ End of edheads-digest V1 #48 ****************************
