I read the posts quite often and enjoyed the list. Before people started posted again, I was thinking about what ever happened to it. Coincidence! Anyway, my life has changed a lot since posting as I'm sure many of yours have as well. I used to be on a Jewel list too but I'm not subscribed to that any more. I was a huge fan. I was on all of the Jewel lists, bought all of her CDs, listened to the JewelStock tapes, and even entered her poetry contest (I was a runner up! =) The only contest I've probably ever won.) I'm not as into her music anymore. My best friend bought me "This Way" when it first came out. I enjoyed it but for me the music wasn't as great as the songs on the JewelStock tapes and even the two older songs that she put on "This Way" weren't like the older versions for me. I listen to the CD occasionally but when "Pieces of You" and "Spirit" came out, they were in my CD player all of the time. I listened to "Intuition" on AOL First Listen and again, it wasn't really for me. I guess the point of my post is, I'm assuming that everyone who joined this list joined because they loved poetry and liked Jewel's music. I'm curious as to who is still a Jewel fan and who really hasn't been listening to her music as much as they used to? Rachel -- now 17-years old =) The Silver EDA Yahoo! I still listen to jewel, I'm still excited about her new album, but I haven't heard any of it yet. my musical tastes have evolved a lot over the last 2 years, so I'm not as into Jewel as I once was, but I still really like This Way, and I saw her at red rocks last summer. I've been getting into a lot of independant bands, especially ones on saddle creek(www.saddle-creek.com). There's a band called Rilo Kiley which rocks my world. love, Jon the luchador angel 21 years and counting..... ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 9 Apr 2003 20:59:09 -0700 (PDT) From: Rachel Musser Subject: Re: ET: Who is still a Jewel fan and who isn't? I posted to this just a second ago but it got deleted on accident. Ergh. Anyway, I understand what you are saying. Jewel's music meant a lot to me. I first bought "Pieces of You" when I was in 6th grade -- when it first came out. I could relate to the CD on so many levels and when you're just a kid that means a lot. I loved "Who Will Save Your Soul" (especially "People living their lives for you on TV/They say they're better than you and/You agree") and Jewel became my favorite singer. I learned about the Everyday Angels on-line and started signing up on the lists. That was when I found out about sending tapes to other people and getting Angelfood. I loved the JewelStock tapes. "Carnivore" and "Buttercup" were two of my favorites. I first started getting into poetry because of the EDAs. I actually found out that I was good at poetry and I never knew that before. "Pieces of You" really got me through some tough times and I listened to it all the time. I even got two of my close friends into buying it and they loved it too. I enjoyed "Spirit" just as much only in a different way from POY. It was different but it still spoke to me on certain levels. Maybe "This Way" was too different for me. I'm really eclectic with my music tastes so I was kind of surprised that I didn't really get into it. I love all kinds; Pop, R&B, Rap, Rock, Folk, a little bit of Country, some Opera, Jazz, etc. It just didn't touch me the way that the other two CDs did. The lyrics seemed dumbed down to me and the songs didn't seem to be of the same quality. I think the reason why it dissapointed me so much is because I feel nostalgic looking back on how much a part of her old music was to me and it seems kind of sad. Don't get me wrong, I very much have a life. I'm going to college next year and am a very busy girl. =) But you know how it is when you look back and see how much something meant to you and realize it's not quite the same anymore. I mean, I write poetry ALL the time now and I'm sure I wouldn't have even started had I not felt that I could do it. Having Jewel pick me as a runner up when I was that young and just beginning meant the world to me. I don't enter contests now or anything; writing is just for me. But it is very much an outlet that I utilize often...I don't know where I would be without it. I'm not trying to change anyone's opinions about "This Way" or Jewel's music or anything. Just spewing my thoughts. It's been so long since I've heard from any of you that I'm curious to see your opinions and thoughts. 'Pieces' was in my oppinion one of the great albums of all time, and all her music has been on a steady, and not so slow decline since in my opionion. A few good songs on Spirit. A couple amazing, though covered songs on x-mas album and everything since in my opionnion is not worth mention, and frankly embarrassing to me who has always defended her to those who speek porly of her talent etc. Just my opinion. I love both her books though. Where has the fragile, personal Jewel of old gone? And do we really need another dance music maker? Not me. Thanks for posting. Laterz.
