Its just "that guy" and "that guy" right? I'm gonna look like a creep for saying this... since I hate KOrn (liked them for about a month, and thats IT), but their names (or nicknames) are: Jonathan Davis :lead singer. plays bagpipes Munky: guitarist. learned to play guitar to rehabiliate his finger Head: guitarist: named head because he "has a big head" Fieldy: bassist. I know a guy who looks like Fieldy... the only one whos name i cant think of is the drummer. I wanna say Chino, but thats the Deftones. (another favorite band of my friend who would blare it in my car) Yes, I'm sure they are nice guys...and I've seen Jon cry in the Who Then Now video. I also know he SINGS great... WITHOUT yelling and screaming. If he could just make some music where he actually sings...then i'll listen. But what its the music and lyrics that are degrading. I can no longer tolerate that music. In fact, its more noise than it is music. ________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 17 Jun 2000 01:34:23 EDT From: JonBoy911@aol.com Subject: Re: ET: Jewel In a message dated 06/16/2000 8:58:34 PM Mountain Daylight Time, mandabear4@juno.com writes: << know what? this is a jewel site..not a korn site...please take your arguments to their site...i don't like my inbox jammed with korn stuff on a list that's not for them...thanks >> Actually, this list was, and still is designed for thoughts, it just so happend that a group of EDA's(myself included) wanted a smaller community to share poetry and philosophy. If you did and you hated them, please don't reply. :) Or, actually reply to me privately and complaints about them, I am still interested. "The Perks of Being a Wallflower" by- Stephen Chbosky and/or "The Journey is the Destination: The Journals of Dan Eldon" by- Dan Eldon These are 2 of my favorite books, and I've gotten a lot from them, and am wondering if anyone else did to. I haven't been reading much lately. Other things to focus my energies on, I guess. And a fine at the library that I don't have the excess cash to pay, and my family can't afford to spare the $2. The book I've read in the past year that affected me most harshly would have to be "Still Life With Woodpecker" by Tom Robbins. Wow, I thought about that boook 3 months after i read it...It hit me, with it's life philosophies and existentialism and loss of any sort of faith in society and people in general... *sigh* And lately, my feelings have not been disproven. I think I'm going to unsubscribe to this list soon. I love it, but I get too angry at the posts...I must have cancelled a dozen replies to the music chain of "discussion" and I don't want to turn into another Joe whom you all despise... Oh yeah, someone asked what emotion they associated with hate? Anger. Hate leads to anger. Anger leads to violence. Violence is never positive. Maggie...the faithless 'angel' who's finally in love...but still not completely happy. ________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 17 Jun 2000 02:01:41 -0400 From: "Kevin B. For my money, that seems like a RIDICULOUS waste of time. If you don't like it, don't listen to it, and concentrate on the stuff you like. If you do like it, then listen to it. Do you really think that you're going to change the mind of anybody here who likes Korn? Do you really think that you're going to do anything but preach to the choir to anybody here who DOESN'T like Korn? That said, I'll admit it, I think some of Korn's stuff is pretty entertaining. Their CD "Follow The Leader" doesn't have any especially deep meaning to me, but it's a great song to listen to before a hockey game, or when I'm working late and trying to get stuff done... it's good background music for when I need to be awake and alert. Has anything anybody's said about Korn made a lick of difference to me? (Hint: No.) So you like whatever y'all like, I'll like what I like, and we'll both get along down the road... Kudos to Kelly. Yes, it is "just my point of view," but then, the same argument could quite easily be used to any post you've made, too, Joe. It's _all_ "just your point of view." As I've asked you on previous occasions, if you're going to make a statement (i.e., "Korn sucks my butt, they're crappy."), why can you not give a coherent, cohesive argument for why you feel that way? You talk about how they swear all the time... how they're just "corporate b.s."... how the music biz pisses you off. If you won't or can't give context for your arguments, don't expect them to make any impact on anybody. RedWoodenBeads@aol.com writes: > I disagree. Certain things do make good art. Whether or not a musician can > play their instrument is a very clear basis on which this can be judged. The > guys in Korn can't play worth bullshit, so there's the first indication > that's they suck, whether you think they do or not. I disagree with this assessment. Artistic merit is NOT defined on a linear scale according to technical competence of the artist. I'm a technically competent saxophonist -- I know how to play the instrument to produce the notes I want, I'm reasonably familiar with music theory, and I'm capable of playing a tune as written, or to a minor extent, improvising within a tune. Those qualities, however, do NOT automatically make everything I play artistically worthwile. In fact, very little of what I play is "artistic", but I guarantee that what I play is played properly, all the same -- I am technically competent. Is anybody going to ever accuse me of being an artist because I can play the saxophone competently? Nope. And by the same token, there are plenty of people who can pick up an instrument they're only vaguely familiar with, and produce amazing, wonderful music with it, regardless of the fact that they don't "know how to play" the instrument. I will grant that it's more likely that great artists "know" how to play their instrument, but it's not a hard-and-fast relationship. There's plenty of music out there that's produced by artists who have only a passing familiarity with their instruments, and nonetheless are capable of producing amazing, wonderful sounds, because they have an instinctive ear for "what sounds good". Anyway. There you have it. I don't really have much to say outside of that though.
