Fulmer" Subject: Re: [ET: what's wrong with koRn?] Hey, they're direct...When someone's upset/depressed they don't want a song to insult something with analogies and metaphors but just come out and say it...That's why I like Emminem as well because he gets the point of the rap song out without using multiple verbosities or abstractions like "Your soul is an ink stain" or "Your brother was a rosebud crossbred with a carwreck"(not to diss Jewel[seriously speaking] but those lines if said to me would make me laugh at the person saying them to me). When I'm upset about things, I don't want to think..I want to just curse the things that are upsetting me. Today alone I played "Falling away from me" 3 times in a row because it said things so perfectly! But then again I think I'd only turn them down if they didn't say anything. If someone just sings "F* you" the whole time without a specific object or variances, then I may not like them. I believe no band is bad, however if the songs speak about something in my life I will listen to it(even sing it perhaps) over and over. I'm not attacking with this post but just those lyrics are not Korn. Maybe some of their songs have the F word in them but I don't know of a single song that they say anything of that nature(below). hehe Although I do like the first lyrics as I've said that to the screen to a few people already the past 2 days(I'm better than you); singing that while staring(or throwing darts at) a picture of someone really reduces stress tremendously. - -Seth ======================================================================== At 08:11 PM 6/15/00 GMT, ~* cymbaline *~ wrote: >>>I'm sorry..but have you listened to their songs or even read any of their >>>lyrics?? > >Yeah, they're great lyricists!! It's so easy to smile when the sun makes everything gold and bright. But when the night descends a velvet mantle falls on my heart and your voice echos in a sweet lullaby the wind and the trees play for my lonely tears. The air is warm and nice but on my skin i feel only ice. Night's caresses feel like needles if i can't fall asleep in your arms. The stars look like golden tears in the dark sky and my heart aches because i can't see your smile. I kiss the night's breeze dreaming of touching your skin, i close my eyes in the moonlight and i see your love bringing endless joy to my life. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 15 Jun 2000 14:55:46 -0700 (PDT) From: Naomi Subject: Re: [ET: what's wrong with koRn?] > I'm like that. I like Korn for the power embedded in their songs and how they equate to my life so well. "Freak on a Leash", "Falling away from me"...I mean...These even work better to equate to my life than most of the Boy Band music out there. When I'm depressed and/or upset about something, I will not listen to anything happy, and usually to anyone who says stuff like "Have a good day" I'll give the finger. Hence music like Jewel, Tori Amos, Sarah McLachlan, Ani DiFranco,...happy music like that bugs me when I'm like that. But music like Korn, Limp Biskit, Nirvana, Metallica, Creed, Garbage, Bush, Matchbox 20...all appeal to me when I'm upset. Korn just like fits though no matter my mood because it speaks so much about my life in general. Take care peoples :) -Seth >> Happy? Sarah? Tori? Ani? Maybe Sarah can be happy, but Ani and Tori no way. At any rate, I would like to say that KoRn, Limp Bizkit, Bush, Matchbox 20, Bush, Creed, Garbage are as far as I can see, corporate packaged bullshit. Nirvana, a band of pioneering leagues and indie roots simply does not belong in that category. Shirly Manson from Garbage was at one time in the extravagent indie band Goodby Mr. McKenzie, but she was picked up by those three producers from who would make up the menfolk of Garbage and basically became involved in a bland, overproduced corporate sceme that became the Garbage monster, which trully sucks. And Metalica, well, just out of personal opinion I cannot stand them. I find them very cliche and I don't understand why people like them. That stuff ain't in any way, mad music with a passion, it's just blaring shit designed to appeal to mass audiences of bedroom rebels. Personally I am not an expert on abrasive music, but I would say Sonic Youth and The Pixies are about as far one needs to go. The Pixies trilogy "Gigantic"/"River Euphrates"/Where is My Mind?" is about the most terryfyingly gorgeous stuff to be heard as far as madness goes. Past Nirvana two new bands, Furslide and Verbena are awfully good. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 15 Jun 2000 21:58:39 EDT From: RedWoodenBeads@aol.com Subject: ET: Re: death to Briteny In a message dated 6/15/00 1:17:54 PM Pacific Daylight Time, owner-eda-thoughts-digest@smoe.org writes: << Let me call Brittany Spears a sellout for just a moment (I'm not sure if people here on this list like her music or whatever, but personally I think she's a sellout, but I know that there are people out there who like her and that's their business) >> You're utterly correct. Spears has been traveling the country since she was in grade school, entering talent contests and just doing anything to "make it". She's a tootal sellout. Her music is what I call "sacraligious". Fulmer" Subject: Re: ET: It doesn't take much to write a Korn song Ok, this is in summary response to all the Korn posters...Find me(anyone) 5 songs(they have well over 50..I don't know the exact # so 5 should not be difficult) that has that many curse words that were stated...and state the titles please. I have 4 songs from Korn on my computer and not a single one of them has the f word(implying fornication, intercourse, etc. so as not to create for myself a loophole). I also have access to my friend Amanda who listens to Korn quite a bit, has pretty much everything about them, and got me into them because my poems stated the same types of messages at the time. That is my challenge to you all(I shall label you "Korn haters" for lack of a better term) however. As for those of you who can't relate to the songs, you're frankly living under a rock. Everybody gets hurt by other people. I don't know too many people who can't honestly say they haven't felt like they were being dragged around and played by the world, or lost someone they loved for reasons known as fate. Boy Bands even...Britney Spears, Jessica Simpson, Backstreet Boys, NSync...My life enveloped their songs this past 2 weeks for the most part. Anybody who can't say they've played with someone's heart or had their heart played with are living under a rock as well. Anyone who hasn't wanted to tell that girl(or guy) who played with their heart "good bye"(or as NSync sings "byebyebye") is in my opinion utterly stupid! Anyone who hasn't wanted to be the object of another person's obsession is living under a rock or well if they're truly in that position and admitting it to me, I'd like to steal that life from you. Perhaps these bands have "sold themselves out" to write songs and don't care about writing songs for art but for money, but in any case what they sing about is felt by a LOT of people. I can honestly say in a day I can sing with feeling Lonestar's "Amazed", Aerosmith's "I don't wanna miss a thing", Celine Dion's "My heart will go on", NSync's "ByeByeBye", Britney Spears' "Oops I did it again" and her songs "Lucky" and "Born to make you happy", Jessica Simpson's "I wanna love you forever" and "Sweet Kisses", as well as probably 10-15 others that I haven't mentioned...with a passion..with feeling, because they apply to my(and a majority of others) lives out there. Take care everyone -Seth ==================================================== At 01:56 AM 6/16/00 GMT, ~* cymbaline *~ wrote: >I find Korn highly offensive lyrically. >To show how much it DOESN'T take to write a Korn song, I will write a Korn >song.... maybe I'll even mail it to them, so they'll use it. > >My Korn song: > >you f*king bastard >you're a waste of my f*king time >sh*t sh*t >f*ck f*ck >why ya gotta rape me like that?! >f*ck you, bastard! >f*ck you bastard! >f*ck you, bastard! > >f*ck you, bastard! > >You're a peice of sh*t! >You're a piece of sh*t!! >Sh*t Sh*t Sh*t Sh*t!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! >I hope you die now >die before my eyes >I want to watch you die! >i hope you die >die before my eyes >I want to watch you die! >F*ck yes! >Die die die!!!! >I want to watch you die! > >-- >That my friends is the typical korn song.... now tell me whats so great >about them.
