Pease" Subject: ET: "Walk of Fame" just anouther RACKET I called the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce and asked about the procedures for nominating an artist (Jewel) for a star. They told me I had to send a SASE to get the form. Well, something gave me the feeling they were hiding something, so I pried a bit more into the specifics of the procedure. Turns out they have rather recently adopted a policy of charging $15,000 to nominate someone. . Now for a program that is supposed to honor people who have made such " contributions to the community" it seems like they are asking quite an additional contribution themselves. Ad to this the qoute from their website "sometimes requiring several annual nominations". and you have the makings of a very ugly little machine indeed. I'll just bet they dont give too many first time nominees a star either. Logic would dictate that they sqeeze these "poor starz" for as many years (and fees) as possible. Poor guys like Rodney Dangerfield probably have over a hundred grand invested and they just keep saying " Maybe next year Rodney, you just keep the faith brother" This is scandalous. Not only are these people charging exorbitant fees for an abstract "non-product" that they have no interest or ownership in, but the selection procedure is narrowed down to those who have obviously bought thier own nominations. I asked her how much a grammy would cost me but she said it wasnt her department. Once again, the trusties of of our culture have sold us out.
