There is NO virus that can do everything this virus is purported to do. Infect your mouse? Not bloody likely. Destroy your hardware? Not bloody likely. Viruses, consisting of simple data, cannot physically damage your hard drive, or your mouse, or your keyboard. They can mess up the keyboard drivers... they can mess up the mouse drivers... they can even fry your whole operating system, if you get one nasty enough that can affect your MFT or FAT, or your system boot files. BUT, they will not destroy the hardware. Simply put, it is impossible for a piece of data contained in an email to do this simply by opening the email. What we have here is a hoax, which some joker wrote up and forwarded to a bunch of email addresses in the hopes of starting a panic. All this email is doing is hogging bandwidth and disk space on servers. Think about that, next time you're waiting impatiently for your favorite web page to download. If you *really* want to protect your computer from viruses, get a Virus Scanner, such as McAffee's ViruScan. And don't download or run files sent to you in email by people you don't know. Sorry if I seem annoyed by this, but I've received messages like this dozens of times over the past few years, and every single one of them has been warning of an "Andromeda Strain" type of computer virus that will do everything: Wreck your computer, crash your car, AND steal your girlfriend. And then it will take all your money and spend it on drugs and hookers. The only way it could do anything like the warning message says it can would be if the virus came equipped with a sledge hammer, and physically mangled your hardware. THIS VIRUS DOES NOT EXIST. For those of you who don't know exactally who I am, hey! My name is Lara and I started this list a while back. I have been silent on the list for a little while because of classes, so many of you may not have heard much from me. Well many of you guys are already aware of this, but I am always rounding up poems list members feel are some of their better ones or ones that are particularly significant for the list website (if ya didn't know, yes there is one!). I have been putting up a couple of people's favorites along with a small image of the list member which can be accessed under the "members" section. It is a nice way for people who are on the list to look through those who are subscribers as well as for people who are interested in the list to see what it is all about. This is a continual process... I am always updating the site. I am caught up now with the updates. I am sorry I let it build up, so if you sent me something it should be up (except Kristen -- the picture you sent me would not open for some reason so feel free to send it to me again). So send away! Also, I am going to make a small, possible banner style graphic for people who have web pages to put on their sites linking to the site if they desire.
