Nice question! This is harder to answer than I thought it would be... :) My all-time top 13 (+1) would probably look something like this, no particular order: --- Top 13 --- - Patty Griffin, "Living With Ghosts" - Dave Matthews Band, "Under The Table & Dreaming" - Sara Evans, "Three Chords and The Truth" - Tool, "Undertow" - Ani DiFranco, "Living In Clip" - Sublime, "Sublime" - Sarah McLachlan, "Fumbling Towards Ecstasy" - Rage Against The Machine, "Rage Against The Machine" - Heather Nova, "Oyster" - Paul Simon, "Graceland" - Ben Folds Five, "Ben Folds Five" - Counting Crows, "August & Everything After" - Pearl Jam, "Ten" --- +1 Honorable Mention --- - Kid Rock, "Devil Without A Cause" (It's a fairly new CD... he's got a sort of a "Rage Against The Machine meets 311" thing going on, it's really good so far... I can't really say how well I'll like it in 6 months or so.) Okay, so I know it's a weird number, but I really can't narrow it any farther than this, because I think all of these albums are phenomenal, in their own ways. If I was told to choose only 13 CD's that would be the only thing I could listen to for the rest of my life, these would be the ones that would go into the changer. Weigh each of your replies to the list as to >whether or not it should be private and/or to a very >select few, or to the whole list if many would benefit >and/or enjoy the post. I understand where you're coming from, Mike, and why you're saying all this, but I honestly, truly don't understand why people are making these complaints. The list's FAQ posted on smoe.org says: "[...] Everyday Thoughts was created to provide the opportunity for Everyday Angels to express their thoughts, poems, etc. [...] Posts are not required to be on any certain topic and can include things as listed above, such as poetry, thoughts, stories, etc. [...]" I will grant you, some of the stuff probably would be better sent through personal email, and I'm just as guilty of doing this (if not more) than anybody else here. For that, I apologize, and I *will* think before sending... BUT... a good deal of the posts on here lately have been discussion-oriented, and I was under the impression that's what this list was for? If people don't want to participate in the discussions, that's fine, but I think if they're complaining about the discussions of music and social issues we've been having the past few days... that's why they make delete buttons, kill files, and "Subject:" lines for this very reason - they don't have to read anything they don't want to. If we're restricting the posts we're making just because we're not sure that everybody on the list will be interested, it's going to make it awful hard to start any sort of discussions. If the list is truly a forum for discussion, we can't satisfy everyone on here who only wants to see poetry & stories. Again, like I said, I understand what you're saying about posts that are better suited for email, with respect to "personal" stuff... but I guess I'm just trying to clarify - are the complaints you're receiving about "personal stuff being sent to the list", or are they about "stuff that I'm not interested in seeing is being sent to the list."? When I heard about the list originally, I did not have that impression at all. At the time(I'm not sure if it still is), the jewel@smoe.org list was under lockdown to pretty much stuff that JUST had to do with Jewel. Some people still slip in the occasional NJC into an email, but that's rare. I started to get bored with getting only 20 emails a day again so I thought I'd join the EDA-thoughts list to basically spy and just because I like listening in on conversations without participating...Obviously I got caught up in the discussions though, but getting back to my point...there was little mention of Jewel in the topic list of this mailing list....just a place for EDAs to trade poems, stories and general thoughts. >I also think that another reason is that all the mail that is recieved on >the thoughts list. I'm really, is necessary to reply to each other every >5 minutes? That's what chat rooms are for! Now...in part honesty and part jokingness...chatrooms are for replying to each other every single minute(or faster). I have ICQ and there are times I'd sooner send messages back and forth with someone rather than open a chat window. I forget that the chat window is open...even though I still want to talk to the person, but I have other things that I need/want(same thing) to do(a report, sending other email, playing a game on my SNES or Playstation, etc.). I'd have to say I've had some of the greatest conversations with my friends over email...and some on the phone but if you can't do the phone...email's the next best thing. :) I really hope no hard feelings are between anyone on this list. I tend to get this feeling of animosity between some people and it shouldn't be that way. We should all be friends. I hope everyone takes care of yourself :) Have a Great Day! Seth Fulmer A.K.A. First, I like getting all the posts from the list, even the 'conversation between two people' posts, so if you do decide your conversations should be moved off the list, please send me a copy so I can read too. Second, on my favorite CD's/my theme music. Just *one* song that describes me? Hmmm, a hard choice, but I guess it would be 'Pollyanne' by Merideth Brooks. On my favorite Cd's, I have too many to narrow it down to only ten, or even only a hundred. My favorites are all the music there is. If it's music, I probably like it.
