I'm not very sure about these poems-so some input would be appreciated :) Thanx a bunch! *^*NIKI*^* Someday Afraid to tell you how I feel Scared that you will back away I don't know what to say Or how to say it I need to tell you What's in my heart And sometimes I think you want to know But right now I can't find the words Or the courage to tell you If only I knew what you would say And what would happen... But I don't so I am forced to Be afraid and confused when I talk to you Always carefuly avoiding the truth Maybe someday soon I will tell you And things will happen between us... Maybe someday... *^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^ Untitled A beautiful being With a destructive mind Is in front of me His shell at least... Some say the eyes Are the windows To ones' soul. His eyes are Blank and glassy. Let's follow his path Anger, confusion, and Disappointment disappear Replaced by the False sense of Well being and Happiness, Senses that will eventually Be gone and leave the others Back in their rightful places. *^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^ Untitled Please don't look Until I am sure Of myself Please don't speak To me Untill I am sure of What my reply Will be Don't criticize me Until there is Nothing left To criticize Leave me to myself In my dark little space Don't turn on The lights Until I am perfect ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 5 Aug 1998 13:23:25 -0400 From: "Kevin Pease" Subject: ET: Re: the best advice i've ever gotten >>kara garbe (lakini@virginia.edu) writes: >"dance like no one is watching, and love like you've never been >hurt" i got this off of the jewel list, i think. it was somebody's >closing quote. does anybody know where it came from? is it a jewel >quote? anyway i love it. Hi all... In response to Kara's question, I may be able to answer, or at least shed a little light on the mystery. :) I've seen two different attributions to this quote. First, there's an "almost exact" copy of this quote in a song called "Come From The Heart" by Kathy Mattea (a moderately popular country singer, in case you don't know the name... ). In case you're interested, the lyrics to the song are below the next paragraph. The second attribution I've seen for this quote is to someone named Emily Fifer, which goes: "Work like you don't need the money, Dance like no one is watching, and love like you've never been hurt." Now, I can't find anything about an "Emily Fifer" on the web anywhere... but, on the off chance it was misspelled, I looked up "Emily Pfeiffer", and it turns out there was a Welsh (I think) poet of that name in the late 1800's, so MAYBE she wrote it, I don't know... that's purely speculation. My guess though, is that it either came from a 19th century Welsh poet, or from that song by Kathy Mattea. Sorry I can't give you any more conclusive evidence. :) Below are the lyrics to that song. Come From the Heart ------------------------ Written by Susanna Clark and Richard Leigh When I was a young girl, my daddy told me A lesson he learned, it was a long time ago If you want to have someone to hold onto You're gonna have to learn to let go You got to sing like you don't need the money Love, like you'll never get hurt You got to dance like nobody's watchin' It's gotta come from the heart If you want it to work Now here is the one thing I keep forgettin' When everything is falling apart In life as in love you know I need to remember There's such a thing as trying too hard You got to sing like you don't need the money Love, like you'll never get hurt You got to dance, dance, dance like nobody's watchin' It's gotta come from the heart If you want it to work You got to sing sometimes like you don't need the money Love sometimes like you'll never get hurt You got to dance, dance, dance like nobody's watchin' It's gotta come from the heart If you want it to work ------------------------ - ---------- Kevin Pease kbpease@boston.crosswinds.net (ICQ UIN: 3106063) (AOL Instant Messenger: kbpease) http://www.crosswinds.net/boston/~kbpease "Well if I were an angel, I could fly over Jordan, and I wouldn't need no Greyhound to save my soul, but maybe that's a good thing, 'cause I'll be home before I know it, And if I was an angel, I'd have a long way to go..." --(Matraca Berg)-- ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 5 Aug 1998 10:49:55 -0700 From: moonsong@ix.netcom.com (Us) Subject: ET: SJC: my pAge.... Yay! I have had much better luck with writing poetry lately... here's one and more is to come :-) "Still Me" Your eyes look at me and you stare me down You gain your strength by cutting me down You're afraid of me because you don't understand What makes me smile the spring in my step You can't comprehend what makes me me The happiness I've found has eluded you the strength I've found Is from within Don't look at me and devalue what I am I don't see who I am through my value to others and that's something you cannot do And so you can't comprehend what makes me me Those clouds over your eyes grow cloudier still and I am still me.
