Today's Subjects: ----------------- New Over the Rhine - Meet Me at the End of the World [Jeff Hanson Subject: New Over the Rhine - Meet Me at the End of the World Just got my pre-ordered copy of Over The Rhine's new double CD "Meet me at the Edge of the World."B I think official release date is Sept 3. This is a band that continues to just wow me and mature with each release.B Hard to believe they've been going at it so long (since 1991) , but they just get better and better.B Think this marks their 15th studio album. This is a very solid effort, produced by Joe Henry and continuing in their folk-rock vein.B You can definitely hear influences like Lucinda Williams on tracks like "Gonna Let My Soul Catch My Body", and Emmylou Harris on others.B B This is a bit more melancholy album-- a bit more serious--lacking some of the fun, light-hearted tracks of recent releases, but still a pretty varied album.B A bit on the bluesy side.B On initial listen I wish there was more of Linford's piano playing, but overall it's a great addition to their already impressive catalog. And Karin's B voice just gets better and better. It was a little to upbeat for me (I like my OTH in OHIO mode), so Im happy to hear this is a little more somber. I'm ashamed to say I've sort of become one of those terrible people who streams instead of buys, and their newer independent stuff isn't really available on spotify, etc. ~ tim On Tue, Jul 30, 2013 at 3:41 PM, Jason Gordon wrote: > There was The Long Surrender between the trumpet child and the new one. > > I listened to the first disc on the way to work (and the second is queued > up for the way home)...I completely agree with Jeff...Karin's voice is > absolutely exquisite on the new album...they are relying a bit more on lap > steel than his piano, but the album just *sounds* really really good from > an auditory perspective > > -jason > On Tue, Jul 30, 2013 at 3:49 PM, Tim Jones-Yelvington < > knockonformica@gmail.com> wrote: > >> Is this the first one since Trumpet Child, or was there one that I missed? >> It was a little to upbeat for me (I like my OTH in OHIO mode), so Im happy >> to hear this is a little more somber. >> >> >> On Tue, Jul 30, 2013 at 2:40 PM, Jeff Hanson >> wrote: >> >> > Just got my pre-ordered copy of Over The Rhine's new double CD "Meet me >> at >> > the >> > Edge of the World."B I think official release date is Sept 3. >> > >> > This is a band that continues to just wow me and mature with each >> release.B >> > Hard to believe they've been going at it so long (since 1991) , but they >> > just >> > get better and better.B Think this marks their 15th studio album. >> > >> > >> > >> > This is a very solid effort, produced by Joe Henry and continuing in >> their >> > folk-rock vein.B You can definitely hear influences like Lucinda >> Williams >> > on >> > tracks like "Gonna Let My Soul Catch My Body", and Emmylou Harris on >> > others.B B This is a bit more melancholy album-- a bit more >> > serious--lacking >> > some of the fun, light-hearted tracks of recent releases, but still a >> > pretty >> > varied album.B A bit on the bluesy side.B >> > >> > >> > >> > On initial listen I wish there was more of Linford's piano playing, but >> > overall it's a great addition to their already impressive catalog. >> > >> > >> > >> > And Karin's B voice just gets better and better. >> > >> > >> > Jeff ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 30 Jul 2013 22:37:13 +0200 From: Leonora Christina Skov Subject: RE: New Over the Rhine - Meet Me at the End of the World Thanks a lot for mentioning this! Over the Rhine has been a favourite band of mine for years. My first introduction to the band was Ohio which is still a definite highlight for me. I love Drunkard's Prayer and Good Dog Bad Dog as well. I didn't really like The Trumpet Child, and their latest album from 2011, The Long Surrender, didn't grab me, either. But I have high hopes for the new one. I adore Karin Bergquist's voice. And while I am at it: Has any of you listened to Lou Doillon's debut Places? She's the half-sister of Charlotte Gainsbourg, but her music and singing doesn't resemble that of her half-sister. I really like what she's doing. It isn't groundbreaking or anything, but her singing is strong, the arrangements and melodies and great, and I basically can't stop listening. It's a bit French, like Keren Ann, perhaps. Here's the first track: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QXTzKYBDKWE And here's my favourite track: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cu1bZdb1Fe8 This track is more lighthearted http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N3gr-lVmVTM All best from Chateau de Lavigny, a writer's retreat in Switzerland,Leonora ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 30 Jul 2013 21:55:38 -0300 From: Paul Blair Subject: Re: Death Speaks - David Lang with Shara Worden Where's the "Like" button?
