For a friend of mine, I am currently compiling a mixed tape, well cd, with songs about birds. By that I mean songs that have the name of a certain type of bird in the songtitle. Examples: "Little bird" by Annie Lennox is not good (non-specific), "The nightingale" by Julee Cruise is good (i.e. specific). I am making a booklet to go with the cd and each song has to be represented by a real bird. That's the idea, anyway. To make matters a bit more difficult: my friend doesn't like 'heavy guitars' so some ecto artists will have to be dropped, while others (who use guitars but not in a 'hard' way) are still acceptable. Well, this is the briefing, I hope you have something to contribute. If all goes well I'll send out a nice tracklisting to this list. :) Kind regards, Marcel. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 23 May 2013 20:26:53 -0400 From: Doug Subject: Re: Jewel as June Carter Cash on Lifetime Monday night Thanks for the heads-up on this, I would have missed it. Jewel with black hair is unrecognizable to me...I can still look right at her picture and think "that's not her"....lol. And who'd thunk Alby Grant could sing?!?! Or is someone dubbing his voice? Needless to say, my DVR is already programmed. - --Doug On Thu, May 23, 2013 at 3:19 PM, Mike Connell wrote: > For those that do not know and may be interested, Jewel's new TV movie > "Ring Of Fire" with her portraying June Carter Cash premieres on Monday > night on the Lifetime channel at 9:00pm ET. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 22 May 2013 15:48:01 -0700 From: Steve VanDevender Subject: Re: Songs about birds In the generic birds category, there's Theresa Andersson's "Birds Fly Away": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vMXqn42AykM ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 22 May 2013 19:43:16 -0400 From: Paul Blair Subject: Re: Songs about birds Noe Venable, "Sparrow I Will Fly" On May 22, 2013, at 7:36 PM, Ken Descoteaux wrote: > Rockin' Robin - various cover versions.. maybe The Jackson Five > > On 5/22/2013 5:05 PM, Marcel Rijs wrote: >> Dear all, >> >> Here's a question for all those of you who like to participate in this kind of >> thing. >> For a friend of mine, I am currently compiling a mixed tape, well cd, with >> songs about birds. There is also the Beatles "Blackbird" which is lovely just as it is, but there is a very slow, haunting version by a female vocalist that I can't find now. However, I did find this, that I didn't know existed: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CgTgledCjOI Julie Fowlis covering the song in Scots Gaelic.
