Today's Subjects: ----------------- Has anybody listened to Phildel? [Leonora Christina Skov Subject: Has anybody listened to Phildel? .. If not, you really should. She's British and was brought up by a strictly religious stepfather who banned music from the house. For several years, she contributed music to various commercials which enabled her to realise her dream of writing, scoring, af producing her debutalbum The Disappearance of the Girl. It took her four years. She has gradually been releasing its tracks via a series of YouTube videos. I haven't been this excited about a new artist for years. She doesn't really sound like anybody else, but I'm pretty sure fans of Imogen Heap, Noe Venable, Jesca Hoop, and Tori Amos will dig this. The opening and title track immediately draws you in http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M-pRlJvj-4UThe beginning of this sounds a lot like Imogen Heap http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZEXwpBoIq_QThis is probably my favourite track http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KxE_i9WP2AcThis is just beautiful as well http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=49vGlSyf05A This wouldn't be out of place on a Jesca Hoop album http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6fZ1FNrKMUAAnd a bit of Gothic drama (and the best beats) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CghQKrk0hWM Here's a great interview http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/2013/mar/31/phildel-interview-disappearance-o f-girl All best,Leonora ------------------------------ End of ecto-digest V16 #740 ***************************
