It's too bad that her usual format can't do that. And here's what Thea herself had to say on the Angel's page, in response to others beside myself who expressed doubts, including someone who'd referred to it as a "clappy happy love song": "On the music.. Happy clappy love songs! Well, fair play.. but I gotta eat (and radio is a good way to do that boys!) On the album, you'll find dark matter. It does have strings on it, I like the way they sound with my voice. It does have positivity too.. I'm a parent and kids have a way of beating the shit out of you but making you feel nice about it sometimes (then sometimes....) It also has a conversation between God and The Devil about the nature of good and evil (Punctuation), a musing on cultural and economic tourism (Spit And Shine), a song about people leaving, either ultimately or metaphorically (My Friend Goodbye), A song about me leaving them (Let It Be Known). Its not full of Black Letters.. its not full of Love Came Looking For Me's. Its a mix, a bit like my life. The good is good, the darkness is never too far away. Take from that what you will, but don't let a love song (parental, incidentally, in case anyone was wondering..) put you off. But then I'm biased." While always good to hear the artist's side, I'd ratherlet the music do the talking (as I believe Joe Perry said) and look foward to the actual release. Apparently she was also on the Voice, I didn't realize because I don't watch. I listened to the synth pop album, and it's actually a pretty good look for her, better than the watered-down Tori, Anna Nalick-y thing she was doing at ectofest. I don't really like pop-style singer songwriters, I'd rather just listen to pop. I'm not surprised she's been pushing for the mainstream, I remember Robert Bristow saying her mother/manager was really strict about her image, which photos could be used in promotional materials and in what way. ~ tim On Mon, Mar 25, 2013 at 12:27 AM, Tim Jones-Yelvington wrote: > ...from ectofest in 2007?? > > apparently she is now a "synth pop princess." > > http://thequ.co/2013/03/20/gay-jam-of-the-day-casey-desmond-bad-habit/ > > Not surprised. I think the issue is that w/o happy, you don't have the kind of rarity/novelty that brought in all us out of towners, so it's more like promoting any other great local event -- i.e. really difficult if you don't already have the promotional infrastructure in place. And difficult even if you DO. ~ tim On Mon, Mar 25, 2013 at 12:37 PM, robert bristow-johnson wrote: > On 3/25/13 11:58 AM, Tim Jones-Yelvington wrote: >> >> Apparently she was also on the Voice, I didn't realize because I don't >> watch. >> >> I listened to the synth pop album, and it's actually a pretty good >> look for her, better than the watered-down Tori, Anna Nalick-y thing >> she was doing at ectofest.
