But here are my absolute favourite albums of 2012: 1. Camille O'Sullivan - Changeling Thanks to you ecto folks for introducing me to this album. I haven't loved an album this much since Who Killed Amanda Palmer? 2. Beach House - Bloom 3. Chromatics - Kill for Love 4. Shakespears Sister - Cosmic Dancer I haven't listened to this band since the 90s, and this album took me completely by surprise. It's accomplished and quirky. Siobhan Fahey has so much attitude. 5. Amanda Palmer & the Grand Theft Orchestra - Theatre is EvilI don't think it's on a par with Who Killed.. and her work with The Dresden Dolls, but it's still a mayor step in the right direction since her last couple of mediocre outings 6. Ane Trolle - Honest Wall Danish singer similar to the magnificent Darkness Falls. Do check her out. 7. Rachael Yamagata - The Noise Trade Loft Session Get the album here http://noisetrade.com/rachaelyamagata 8. Shannon McArdle - Fear the Dream of AxesI still encourage you to listen to her solo debut Summer of the Whore (2008). An absolute masterpiece.9. Cat Power - Sun10. Lana del Rey: Born to Die The Paradise EditionI have grown a bit tired of this album by now, but I do like her universe and her voice. She sounds unique to me.11. Kathleen Edwards - Voyageur 12. Brandi Carlile - Bear Creek 13. Eivor - Room Eivor reminds me a lot of Noe Venable on this album. I'm not sure I am crazy about the arrangements, but her voice is stunning. 14. Jesca Hoop - The House that Jack Built.. even though I liked her EP Snowglobe from 2011 better than this album15. Sara Bareilles - Once Upon Another Time EP This EP really shows off her voice. Albums from 2011 that I discovered and loved in 2012: Holly Throsby - Team Darkness Falls - Alive in Us Ane Brun - It All Starts With One I Break Horses - Heart Ebba Forsberg - Falling Folding Flipping .. I didn't care much for Bat for Lashes - The Haunted Man, Ren Harvieu - Through the Night, Aimee Mann - Charmer, Rosie Thomas - With Love, Regina Spektor - What We Saw From the Cheap Seats, Marina and the Diamonds - Diamond Heart and Marissa Nadler - The Sister, and I still haven't listened nearly enough to Beth Orton - The Sugaring Season and A Fine Frenzy - Pines to form an opinion. All best from Copenhagen,Leonora ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 20 Jan 2013 22:45:56 -0500 From: Paul Blair Subject: Re: Distant Correspondent (ft. Edith Frost), What Bird Thanks for this. I like it! (Though I have to say I could pull out a fair amount of Cowboy Junkies material that's more propulsive than that.)
