Stupid me for not reading the ENTIRE article before posting. The very last sentence mentions it's is birthday. I'm not going to make my own, instead I want to mention some artists/albums I discovered in 2012 that *haven't* been mentioned by anyone else (not just in best-of lists, but these are folks who haven't been mentioned at all on ecto) and that I think are worth a listen. First is "Lost In The Trees", whose album "A Church That Fits Our Needs" came out in 2012. We discovered Lost In The Trees entirely by accident when we went to see Yellow Ostrich live. I recommend both "Lost In The Trees" and "Yellow Ostrich". These are bands with male vocals but especially Lost In The Trees may appeal to ecto-folk, with orchestral rock and female backup vocals, and the male lead has a pretty high voice, sometimes almost sounds female. not that ecto-folk require female vocals, it just seems most prevalent. Yellow Ostrich is a bit indie-poppy, and have some really fun songs, check out the song "Whale". Not terribly "ecto" in sound, but I really enjoyed discovering Django Django this year. They are just ridiculously fun. They were wonderful live, too. They've only got one album so far, and had to apologize to the audience who demanded MORE MORE MORE! but they had no more. :) lovely harmonies, nice voices, and these guys are just adorable & fun. It was their first time in San Francisco and they were in love with the city and I was in love with them! Not hew in 2012 but I discovered them in 2012: You must check out Broken Bells, especially if you've enjoyed some of the Shins in the past. Broken Bells made one album in 2010 and an EP in 2011, but I only discovered them recently. Broken Bells is composed of Brian Burton (better known as Danger Mouse) and J ames Mercer, the lead vocalist and guitarist for the The Shins. Let's see. Didn't become a favorite but I am going to give further listen to Emily Jane White, who I don't believe has been mentioned on ecto, but might be right up our alley. She did have an album in 2012. Also not from 2012 but discovered by me in 2012, Release The Sunbird. I've only heard a few songs but will check out more. Check out "Come Back To Us". I may send some more later.. but want to get this out now.. - -jessica ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 8 Jan 2013 14:48:00 -0800 From: Steve VanDevender Subject: New Bowie Album Kerry White writes: > http://entertainment.nbcnews.com/_news/2013/01/08/16411168-david-bowie-returns-with-first-album-in-10-years-the-next-day?lite All hail the Sovereign of the Guild of Calamitous Intent!
