Greetings, fellow Ectophiles, I write this e-mail on behalf of a friend who is visiting the Bay area for the next couple of weeks. Sadly, I am still in Australia, but she wants to know: is there anything going on musically and culturally that she should look out for? Your help would be much appreciated! :) Warmly, Heidi. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 20 Nov 2012 12:54:47 -0800 From: Sue Trowbridge Subject: Re: Music/arts in the Bay area in the next two weeks? Here are some suggestions: Freight & Salvage (Berkeley): http://www.thefreight.org/ - they have Jane Siberry this Friday and Iris DeMent next week; Iris is sold out but there are occasionally extra tickets available at the door. Definitely one of the Bay Area's best concert venues. Yoshi's (Oakland & San Francisco): http://www.yoshis.com/ - Originally a jazz club, but they now feature a variety of music. Tuck & Patti are doing their annual series of shows there next week. Jill Tracy has two San Francisco shows coming up in December: Dec. 5 & 8. Details at http://jilltracy.com/jt/ Slim's, Great American Music Hall, the Independent, Bottom of the Hill and Hotel Utah are some other good venues. Some friends of mine in the pop band Bye Bye Blackbirds are playing a show at Bottom of the Hill on Nov. 29; they're opening for Becky White & the Secret Mission, who I'm not familiar with. http://www.bottomofthehill.com/calendar.html If she's into theater, Theater Bay Area's TIX Booth in Union Square offers reduced-price tickets: http://www.tixbayarea.com/ The SF Weekly (free weekly, available in boxes all over town) and San Francisco Chronicle's Datebook newspaper section are also good sources of info. - --Sue ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 20 Nov 2012 15:00:04 -0800 From: "Bill Mazur" Subject: RE: Music/arts in the Bay area in the next two weeks? Hello Heidi, Sue has given lots of great ideas here. I no longer live in the Bay Area. But definitely agree with her suggestions. Here's the website for The Chronicle: http://www.sfgate.com/ Here's the web site for SF Weekly (the Music section): http://www.sfweekly.com/music/ - I would always pick up this paper to find out about upcoming shows (and actually anything having to do with the local arts). BTW, Jill Tracy is fantastic to see live. Highly recommended.
