I've always thought Brendan Perry's voice was an uncanny cross of Frank Sinatra and Jim Morrison (at least on "How Fortunate The Man")! Also, if any are interested, I have a 6.5GB MKV file of BBC's HD coverage of the Olympics Final Ceremony. No commercial breaks and all of the music. If anyone would like it (and has a place to which I can upload it!) just let me know. (Uploading will take a while as internet in the NC mountains is sloowww...)(but I'm willing!) Well said Jessica and Neile! I agree 100%. Since it's Sarah Brightman's birthday I will give a thumbs up to the albums of hers on the bubble list. Two lesser known artists that I was turned on to here on Ecto are Louisa John-Krol and Land of the Blind featuring Cyoakha Grace. Their two albums mentioned below may have already been submitted by me way back when. I don't remember at this point. So a second vote from me won't count if I did. Louisa's "Ariel" and Cyoakha's "Ordinary Magic" are both Ecto masterpieces to me. I don't see any of Kevin Bartlett's CDs mentioned. So I have to mention "Near Life Experience", "Glow in the Dark" and "Songs for the Big Kablooey". - -----Original Message----- From: owner-ecto@smoe.org [mailto:owner-ecto@smoe.org] On Behalf Of jessica spurling Sent: Tuesday, August 14, 2012 6:05 PM To: Neile Graham Cc: ecto Subject: Re: Ecto-defining albums list this is one of the amazing things i love about ecto. ecto as a 'genre' is something in-flux that is determined by the ecto participants. it can and will change over time. the input is from many, with some different opinions and different perspectives, it is a collaborative invention that changes as we do individually & collectively & as we discover new music, too. *my* definition of it is "music that if i discovered, i would want to share with this group of people on the ecto mailing list". How does something meet that criteria? a number of different ways. Often but not *exclusively* female vocals. Often but not exclusively passionate, often but not exclusively mellow. Something really 'new' and 'different'. Something striking. Something you might not have heard of before but might like. Sometimes ecto participants will share something with ecto with the caveat "well, this isn't really 'ecto' but i just thought it was so that i wanted you to have the opportunity to hear it" and then it becomes ecto, in a way. if a bunch of folks on the list say 'yeah that's awesome', then it really is "ecto" even though you initially thought it wasn't. well, that's what I think, off the top of my head! - --jessica On Tue, Aug 14, 2012 at 5:35 PM, Neile Graham wrote: > I don't really want to define it myself, or make rules that everyone > might not agree with.
