Michael, I think most early Pink Floyd albums were audio wonders in a pre-digital age. "Headphone albums" as we called them... You mention Ultravox, and though not Ecto, Systems of Romance, produced by Conny Plank was a touchstone of synthrock, for me. The dense electronics on tracks like Slow Motion and Dislocation were sonically amazing. I saw that John Foxx line-up twice at the Whiskey and the Midge Ure line-up several times in later years, but the Foxx incarnation in 1978 remains one of the top ten performances I've ever seen. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 4 Jun 2012 16:43:15 -0400 From: Jason Gordon Subject: Re: exciting June i just preordered the deluxe fiona and the jesca hoop :) and i didnt even realize veda had a new one out last year there were nine releases last week that i want to check out as well Sister by Marissa Nadler What We Saw From The Cheap Seats by Regina Spektor Valtari by Sigur Rss Anxiety by Ladyhawke By the Horns by Julia Stone Street Halo / Kindred by Burial Quarantine by Laurel Halo 2:54 by 2:54 Blood Speaks by Smoke Fairies too many tunes, not enough time... I really enjoyed the video on that page so I downloaded audio clip as well, as it was some 20 minutes longer. As it turns out, the video edit is spot on - those 20 extra minutes missing from the video is pretty much the 20 minutes I'd be inclined to fast forward through anyway. So all in all, I think a bit uneven. Donald Fagan - The Night Fly (amazing vocal harmonies) Gentle Giant - Acquiring the Taste, Power and the Glory and lots of Zappa! :) On Tue, Jun 5, 2012 at 8:18 AM, robert bristow-johnson < rbj@audioimagination.com> wrote: > On 6/4/12 6:32 PM, Mike Connell wrote: > >> What's the best-sounding record you ever heard? >> > > to answer this, it's sorta an embarrassment of riches. > > lemme leave it to the vinyl age... > > i have two or three much venerated albums. two are getting a little bit > beatup from use (i use Discwasher, but it's been nearly 4 decades) and one > i was able to spot somewhere brand new and bought a second copy and it's > pristine. > > 1972 Captain Beyond (self-titled album) > my first exposure to really creative and well-produced music that was > not Top 40. spacey, hard rock. > > 1974 Camel Moonmadness > my first exposure to British prog rock > > ????
