Ages ago, in an attempt to get into him, I bought XO and Either/Or, but they didn't do anything for me and I eventually excised them from my music player to make room for other new stuff. I recently, however, got a new music player with more room on it, so thought I'd give them both another go, loaded them back up and listened to them both yesterday, back to back, but...well, I'm not convinced this is a good place to start, so I was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction? There is a CD called "An Introduction to Elliott Smith" which is sort of an overview of his career, or you could try one of his really early albums, like the self-titled one or "Roman Candle." I would say "Either/Or" is probably his strongest album, though, so if that one's not doing it for you, you might just not be cut out to be an Elliott Smith fan. - --Sue T. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 7 Mar 2012 22:00:17 -0700 From: neal copperman Subject: Camille O'Sullivan Surprised I haven't seen anything on ecto about her. I just stumbled across her music and am pretty blown away. They like to use this quote "A cross between Patti Smith, Sally Bowles and PJ Harvey. A major star." - The Scotsman but I think she sounds like Holly Coles evil younger sister. Interpretive singer from Ireland who covers Nick Cave, Tom Waits, Jacques Brel, David Bowie, Radiohead, Gillian Welch and more. On her web site there is a video of her on Later with Jools Holland totally ripping open Kirsty MacColl's "In These Shoes". http://www.camilleosullivan.com neal np: Changeling - Camille O'Sullivan nr: The Warmth of Other Suns: The Epic Story of America's Great Migration - Isabel WIlkerson ------------------------------ End of ecto-digest V16 #357 ***************************
