Today's Subjects: ----------------- The Joy Formidable [Gregory Bossert ] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Wed, 28 Jul 2021 22:08:31 -0400 From: Gregory Bossert Subject: The Joy Formidable I donbt hear much new music outside of game soundtracks these days - the last ectophilic group I came across was Daughter thanks to their wonderful soundtrack for the game Life is Strange: Before the Storm. Most of the time these days I listen to minimalist drone/glitch stuff while workingb&which is most of the time. But yesterday a Facebook friend also into shoegaze pointed me at the Welsh group The Joy Formidable via a KEXP performance* and just now I lsietned to some more tracks and I am digging it. They actually sound a bit like Daughter**, with tinges of Belly and MBV and even Arson Garden. Anyone have album recos for them? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W782QhqPTNQ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AgW10RET2wY https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TY7GOJW2P54 *what a treasure is KEXP! **I adore Daughter, but they are MUCH better in the studio than live, whereas TJF seems jaw-droppingly tight live. I havenbt been to a live show in 80 years (give or take) but Ibd go see these folks. - -- www.gregorynormanbossert.com -- - -- www.suddensound.com -- ------------------------------ End of ecto-digest V16 #3054 ****************************
