Message editing is a lost and forgotten skill, due to (yes, again) people using email for work where you need to keep the entire trail of messages. The very idea of someone receiving a digest is utterly off my radar these days. Digests are a remnant of the ancient days when email lists thrived. That's why it never occurs to me to do such editing anymore. Apologies. I'm unlikely to remember by the time another conversation sparks multiple responses like this, but will try. - --Neile ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 23 Oct 2018 10:33:30 -0500 From: Tim Jones-Yelvington Subject: Re: The question that no-one dares to ask There was a good flurry of activity around botht he Security Project shows and the release of Ectotrophia, and I've yet to see a year where a good number of us didn't chime in with our annual best-ofs. I'm happy the list is still kicking in whatever form. ~Tim On Tue, Oct 23, 2018 at 2:54 AM Marcel Rijs wrote: > Hi all, > > I have been reading up on my ecto digests this morning and it struck me > tha= > t over the past month there have been a handful of e-mails (a.o. about the > = > Kate Bush Remastered box set and Bobby McFerrin) and an almost daily > remind= > er of birthdays. > > Ecto used to be so lively in the old days, but it now looks like it has > bee= > n abandoned by most. > "You're a good one to talk", everyone screams now. > Yes, I have not posted in a long time either. > > But perhaps this is the question that no-one dares to ask: > Is ecto still relevant? I don't think there's anything wrong with that. ~Tim On Tue, Oct 23, 2018 at 10:33 AM Tim Jones-Yelvington wrote: > There was a good flurry of activity around botht he Security Project shows > and the release of Ectotrophia, and I've yet to see a year where a good > number of us didn't chime in with our annual best-ofs. I haven't read many messages on the list for awhile, or posted often. If there's some Happy Rhodes or Kate Bush news I try to remember to post it here, which doesn't always happen. I do value that the list exists and hope it continues. One thing about moving the list to some other social media or Slack is that it would become even less searchable than it is now. Being able to look up old ecto discussions when I run across an artist I vaguely recognize has been helpful. I believe Happy has said she is intending to produce more music, so Patrick may be pleasantly surprised, though who knows how long it will be. The fact that Happy is performing at all has me thrilled. Lately most of the new music I've been listening to is French Canadian, but mostly still in the ecto universe. Two artists I love in particular are Lisa LeBlanc -- brash, with a wicked sense of humor -- and Catherine Durand, whose recent work is ethereal and very ectophilic. Catherine's new album, Vingt, is a retrospective on her 20 years of work and features reinterpretations of songs she released over that period. Here for example is an extract from the new arrangement of Le temps presse < https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n-Zaq5H02ko>; compare the original: < https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Glw4EHXebWY>. ------------------------------ End of ecto-digest V16 #2383 ****************************
