Awesome song, Alison alone or otherwise. Snail Mail's indie pop is fun - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-d91Qn8QUks Some youngsters at Liz Phair's tiny club shows were there for opener Soccer Mommy and left before Liz. Not too dissimilar, they should have stayed to hear Guyville. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ouem6cFXJvA, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Phsup-LrII I enjoyed Alice Merton's percussion-heavy music at a recent show. She was opening for Vance Joy, a pretty Australian strummer. It's fun going to shows of artists you don't know as a volunteer - there were teen screams and and "Vance gives me Joy" signs, and us non-fans are wondering "why this guy in particular? The music is pleasant enough..." I found Alice Merton a bit more interesting. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IryLa6_9bxc, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ajgPR6F47W8, No Roots is her European hit - she's a German/North American/Londoner and perhaps a few more - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PUdyuKaGQd4 karen ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 15 Jun 2018 14:19:58 -0400 From: Karen Hester Subject: me poking around, part II Midas Fall are two Scottish women who have been making ethereal gauzy progressive/alt rock for over eight years. And I'm wondering why I've never heard of them! Maybe music that's kinda progressive/post-rock doesn't get covered in the music media I read, but they sound similar to shoegaze/dreampop stuff. Maybe they're in-between genres that none of us can define anyway. Here's a lovely new stop-motion video featuring a wolf - https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=1&v=SEyYSLZEAa0. I appreciated her first one, but thought her slightly meek, pinched voice was a little too weak to carry its big, Dusty Springfield-style arrangements. This one feels like a better setting for her soundbit's very retro (kinna 70s r & B + Hall and Oates in places), but in a way that is just slightly left of center and forward-looking enough to feel like a distinctive statement. ~Tim On Fri, Jun 15, 2018 at 1:19 PM, Karen Hester wrote: > Midas Fall are two Scottish women who have been making ethereal gauzy > progressive/alt rock for over eight years.
