Mike P.S. Not my favorite album of hers, but was glad to see Patty Griffin in the countdown. The album DOES have a few gems on it. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 26 Jul 2017 18:46:04 -0400 From: Tim Jones-Yelvington Subject: 2017 Playlist Project, JUNE Hi all, Here is my June playlist, very late as I've been busy teaching all day in the high school summer program I run. (As a quick reminder, for the year of 2017, I have taken on the challenge of creating a playlist for each month.) All songs are from albums released during the month of June 2017. (are there any others that had two albums in the list?) kinda surprized and disappointed they didn't have Suzanne Vega. and i sorta hoped they might have Imogen Heap, but it was a shallow hope. - ---------------------------- Original Message ---------------------------- Subject: 150 Greatest Albums Made by Women From: "Karen Hester" Date: Wed, July 26, 2017 2:00 pm To: "Ecto" - -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > http://www.npr.org/2017/07/20/538317263/%E2%80%9D/2017/07/20/538387823/turning-the-tables-150-greatest-albums-made-by-women%22 > > Ignoring the ridiculousness of ranked lists which compare apples and > beagles, because duh, which of these albums do you think are > surprising yet great choices, and which are silly? > > K > - -- r b-j rbj@audioimagination.com "Imagination is more important than knowledge." ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 26 Jul 2017 11:56:18 -0700 From: Sue Trowbridge Subject: Re: 150 Greatest Albums Made by Women I have female musician friends who were railing against the concept of "women in rock!" articles 20 years ago. The fact that we're still doing this in 2017... ugh. But if I had to nitpick, it would be including albums by mixed-gender groups like B-52's, Sonic Youth, Alabama Shakes, Carpenters, Eurythmics, Cocteau Twins, Fleetwood Mac, etc. where the men in the band made contributions as significant as those of the women. I would also prefer not to see, say, artists like Britney Spears who seem to be primarily vehicles for male producers and songwriters. Joni Mitchell's BLUE is a worthy #1, and the fact that she wrote and produced it herself means it is truly a great album made by a woman. - --Sue On Wed, Jul 26, 2017 at 11:00 AM, Karen Hester wrote: > http://www.npr.org/2017/07/20/538317263/%E2%80%9D/2017/07/ > 20/538387823/turning-the-tables-150-greatest-albums-made-by-women%22 > > Ignoring the ridiculousness of ranked lists which compare apples and > beagles, because duh, which of these albums do you think are > surprising yet great choices, and which are silly? > > K ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 26 Jul 2017 21:13:04 -0400 From: WolfManBCV Subject: Re: 150 Greatest Albums Made by Women I think there were two Madonna. Stevie Nicks had two, a solo and a Fleetwood. I too was happy to see two Joni. Did Ella or Aretha have two?
