Which I think also includes Mary Margaret O'Hara. We can always create an appropriate "overlooked geniuses" category with these two to start it! But for now, let's try to keep to the one-album people. - --Neile On Mon, 10 Jan 2011, Paul Blair wrote: > Are you not counting EPs? I've always really liked "Venus kissed the moon". Very nice and definitely ectophilean. Also, what about the Fibonaccis? I believe they only produced one full length album (the brilliantly titled "Civilization and it's discotheques"- got to love a freud reference ) while they were with us. They also had "Repressed" but that is a post breakup compilation album (lots of ep and unreleased stuff) of their material so I don't know if they count. They were an 80's so-cal/LA band. kind of like a literate, martian version of Combustible Edison; which is to say they were hard to describe and impossible to categorize. np: Raymond Listen- Licorice Root Orchestra ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 3 Sep 2011 15:01:41 -0700 From: Steve VanDevender Subject: Re: Mimi Goese Factory Alberto writes: > I interviewed Edgar Froese from Tangerine Dream once, and he > pronounced his last name FROH-suh. In German "oe" would normally be spelled with an umlaut o (an o with two dots over it) and is not phonetically the same as the sound "oh". As I learned it, umlaut o is prounounced by rounding your lips (as if to whistle) while saying the "oh" sound. English speakers not used to hearing the difference, however, will tend to hear it as "oh". If Mimi's last name is derived from German, it's diverged a bit from the likely original pronunciation. But that happens a lot. > On Sep 3, 2011, at 10:47 AM, Sue Trowbridge wrote: > > > Well, according to the ever-reliable Wikipedia, "Goese" rhymes with "hazy." > > > > --Sue > > > > On Sat, Sep 3, 2011 at 10:31 AM, Robert Lovejoy wrote: > >> Just curious, how does one pronouce Goese? Your support made last Friday the most successful day yet for my LIT DIVA EXTRAORDINAIRE online fundraiser! I am tremendously grateful to all of you who made donations last week, and in the days since, as well as those of you have shared my appeal amongst your networks. Donations close* this Friday, September 30* -- so I've still got* two and a half days* to reach my goal!* * LIT DIVA EXTRAORDINAIRE is a multidisciplinary performance piece that explores what it means to materialize as indie lit's first "pop star," a seeming oxymoron. Your donations are helping cover the cost of technology, travel and collaborators. Jacob Knabb, editor of *Another Chicago Magazine, *says my "hybridization of short story and pop song" is "dripping in sequins and violence," and encourages others to support the LIT DIVA EXTRAORDINAIRE project, saying:* * *"**I've seen what TJY can do on his own, with no budget whatsoever, and I'd like to see how far he can take this experiment."* As I move toward my final day of fundraising, I would like to share with you some additional LIT DIVA works-in-progress.
