I'd never heard of them before, and they're easily worth adding to my Grooveshark playlist. :) I also like their song "Hurt Me"...terrific song, and video too. Hayley's voice sounds a bit like Kate Bush's voice, to my ear at least... Reminds me of Marty Feldman's character in Young Frankenstein, "EYE-gor". Since Spotify came to the U.S. this summer I've been listening to a lot more "non-work related" music in my daily life, and I'm starting to feel connected to the whole "music fan" thing again. (Alas, since Spotify has instituted their asinine "you must have a Facebook account in order to sign up" policy I can no longer recommend them and will not be sharing invites ... but if anyone is already/still Spotified and wants to connect there, my username is "smoemeth".) I just wanted to make sure the New England ectophiles are aware of three amazing shows happening this weekend -- I know I have to appear professionally biased, but I saw this pairing last night in Philadelphia and it was indeed an amazing show. Trust me as an ectophile, you won't want to miss this if you can get to any of these. Ember Swift (Canadian by way of Beijing) and Rachael Sage (accompanied by cellist Dave Eggar and percussionist Chuck Palmer of DEORO) are doing some co-bills this weekend. Really, people, it's great stuff... this is one of Rachael's best trios, and if you're not familiar with Ember's jazz-infused gorgeous guitar work and vocals, now with added lyrics in Mandarin as well as English, it's well worth checking out. She is accompanied on this tour by singer/songwriter Kelly Zullo on drums, guitar and backing vox, and you'd never know they've only been performing together for a couple weeks. Here are the details. Hope to see some ectofolk this weekend, it's been way too long!!
