(new releases) I'm going to have a heart attack. New Ivy (single sounds good by the way, listen at http://www.thebandivy.com/home/) AND new Snakefarm? Plus, NPR has Tori's new one up for streaming (http://www.npr.org/2011/09/11/140261371/first-listen-tori-amos-night-of-hunt ers), so I listened to that all the way through then went back and listened to a few individual songs. Sounds very promising. I had not read much about the album, something about a woman going back in time and wandering around centuries-ago Ireland or something), so I didn't know it was based on existing pieces of classical music. I recognized the Satie in "Battle of Trees" but nothing else. Anyway, that seems very much in line with what she did with Christmas music on Midwinter Graces, but going further. Some of the songs seem really classical, and others sound like orchestrated Tori songs, kind of in the Scarlet's Walk vein. I didn't always love the children on it (her daughter sings on 4 tracks and a niece on 1), but overall this went over better than I would have expected, and sometimes the interplay of voices was quite nice, like on "Job's Coffin." Anyway, very preliminary thoughts. But I think this will be the first Tori album I buy (I've bought?) since The Beekeeper.
